despite being born in the early 80s, i, too, have never seen the film in its entirety.

however, i did own the nintendo game "goonies 2", which was apparently a sequel(?) to the movie, and i defy anyone who has played it to tell me that they are actually good at it.

And if the above doesn't entice you to finally see A Christmas Story, the kid who starred in it went on to do porn in the early 90's.

That's right; he made that paper with his skills of fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge. Except he didn't say that.

I sometimes feel guilty coming into positive threads like this and spreading the lack-o-love, but...

The Goonies makes me want to shit in my own ears and eyesockets to block out the pain.

Well yeah.

Honestly, this is my #1 most hated movie ever. I vowed to watch nothing but Bergman films for six months after seeing it as a combination penance/palate cleanser.

I've only seen this movie once, and am not moved to see it again.

Vehement ambivalence.

Like Goonies.
Love Princess Bride.
Have not seen Titanic, Jurassic Park, or Independence Day.

There were so many great, goofy movies from the '80s. It was such an awesome time to be a kid.

Goonies
The Princess Bride
The Last Starfighter
Clue
Return of the Jedi
Flight of the Navigator
Star Trek IV
The Police Academy movies
Space Balls
Back to the Future

I could probably think of a lot more later.

A lot of them were terrible, but I still get nostalgic about all of them, much more so than any pop music from that period.

I do think The Princess Bride is a good movie, but I can hardly pretend to be objective about it, having memorized it by the time I was 8.

Man, if you can't enjoy the Goonies OR Princess Bride, you're missing some part somewhere in your brain.

I really don't see the comparison -- Princess Bride is quite possibly one of my favourite movies of all time; Goonies, not so much.

I think you would have to had seen Goonies as a kid. I'm pretty sure I saw it in the theater when I was 5.
