Inspired by TwilightKid's topic.
This is something that I know is near and dear to FT's heart. One of the "Holy H's", if I'm not mistaken, right sir?

My pick:
"Time Of the Season" - The Zombies

it's one clap thrown in the middle of the percussion, just before the sigh, in what may be the most inspired percussion arrangement in the history of Rock & Roll.

John Cougar Mellencamp's "Jack & Diane" - They only put them on there to provide a rhythm during recording since it was meant to be just a vox/git track. When they took them off later the song didn't work at all.

'Stars and Sons,' Broken Social Scene

'Rebellion (Lies)' The Arcade Fire

There's a handclap about 2/3 of the way through that kicks ass.

'Cecilia,' Simon & Garfunkle

The 4 H's. Hammond, Harmonies, Horns, and Handclaps.

I'll say Sonia Dada, You Don't Treat Me No Good No More

It's sparse, but it's essential.

Also: the Jimmy Eat World song that cribs liberally from "Jack & Diane".

"The Authority Song"?

Yes, yes,.... I think that is the one.

The Go-Go's - "Head Over Heels"

But really it's the way they do the claps in the video that make it work for me.

what a great choice!

when ted leo plays "timorous me" solo, everyone starts clapping at a certain part. i've been to a few shows where this has happened spontaneously. it's like everyone just knows. and it's totally amazing to hear an entire room in synch. i might also say "oppenheimer" by old 97s.

Foot-stomp, foot-stomp, clap!
Foot-stomp, foot-stomp, clap!

"We Will Rock You", by Queen.

Kind of hard to sample, though -- I was trying to put it in a 3/4 time, and it just didn't work.

Worst: The Eagles, "Heartache Tonight" I remember hearing them do an interview, and they said they did everything to it -- overdub, pitch-shift it up, pitch-shift it down, re-record it backwards, everything. You know what? You can tell. If you're going for that completely processed sound (which innit bad, in the context of, say, synthpop), then they succeeded, but in the context that they were going for (natural), I think they failed miserably.
