We saw this saturday night. Every showing of it in the theatre we went to was sold out. Wow.

Movie was amazing. I liked it a LOT better then Ray. Much, much much.

Pheonix was great, and like Fick said he did seem to come into the role of Cash more as the film went on. By the end of the film he just owned that role. But Witherspoon, holy crap did she blow us away. We both agree she was dynamite. That girl is AMAZING. And the singing in the film was damn good even if they didn't sound exactly like them, who cares. The chemistry between the two was electric.

I think there could have been a little less with the pills yes, but I think it was something that oddly enough brought them closer to each other and seeing as this story IS about how they fell in love and nothing more, it makes sense.

And I felt conflicted for a while regarding the ex wife: One one hand I thought she was just a cold bitch from hell, but I also felt awful for her at that show where she's watching her husband onstage with June, I mean how could she not sense that attraction?? The actress that played her, Ginnifer Goodwin deserves and oscar nom for best supp actress if you ask me.

So anyways, I absolutely loved the movie.

I'd like to see this, but I can wait til video.

My concerns about biopics about great people is that they box them in and kind of make the people into "events" that last a month or so before people move on to the next story. Much as Ray Charles was last year's story, Cash is getting the treatment now.

My aunt, who would never buy a Cash record or listen to much music at all, bought the soundtrack that has Phoenix singing the songs. What the fuck is that? That makes no sense at all. I told her I'd burn her some real Cash, but I know she would never, ever listen to it.

I finally used this gift card to Borders I've had for 10 months now, the other day. I went in, and whilst perusing, came across that soundtrack. I dug a little deeper and came away with a set of 21 recording he did at Sun, ranging from '55 to '58, and they're all his compositions. I liked the swing of Get Rhythm in the movie better than the original, but still, I think I made out good. I, too, did the Wah?! at the soundtrack with him and Reese singing it. But I'll bet it sounds fine.
