I will start it off. Good band comes to town, you have been looking forward to it for a month, lights go down, and you see....everyone and their brother with their cell phones out, text messaging, taking camera photos that will look like shit tomorrow, letting their friends "listen" to the band (when realistically you can't hear shit-all).

This is a trend I would like to see reversed immediately

This is true for a couple of reasons. 1) you can't smoke anywhere anymore and 2) artists encourage crowds to hold up their cell phones like lighters. Instead of looking cool it just looks like a live Verizon Wireless or Sprint ad.

Doesn't this only occur at Styx concerts?

I don't mind people being on their cell phones at shows or taking pictures, but the holding it up so their friend can hear is probably even gayer than wearing a band's shirt at their show.

I think it happened at the Coldplay concert I was at over the summer. Either that or Blink 182 the year before.

Mike Doughty encourages it too, and then he takes pics and posts on his website.

i had to tell my friend to stop doing this.

i'd come home and have 10 minutes of garbled noise on my answering machine every other month.

yeah, that's pretty awful. i don't like people talking on phones, but most people know to not anyway.

the funny thing is that everyone busts out their camera(phone)s during the first song and snaps away like gangbusters. what about waiting? the band will probably play an hour, right? i usually wait about a half-hour into the set before using my camera unless there're shots that i really want, like if there's a guest onstage.

At the beginning of a concert, you will see me pull out my phone and open it. The light comes on automatically.

But what I'm doing is shutting it down. Yay, me.

sometimes i text message (only if i have plans to do something after the show or something to that extent). but it's so i'm not yelling in the phone when obviously the person on the other line isn't going to be able to hear me.

i hate when people are at shows and answer their cell phone and yell "hey, what was that? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" duh, you're a friken show.

No doubt! At the Sigur Ros show at the Strathmore the girl next to me kept taking pics with her camera, and not only was the light annoying but the *CLICK CLACK* sounds as she took the pic as well with the damn flash. I can't imagine people actually accepting those pictures as valid documents of the event. Kind of off topic but in the same church...cell phones in movies. Is it just the theaters around here, or is this a new phenomena of people talking on phones throughout movies?

If a chick next to me did the whole time during Sigur Ros (and I am going to MSG in Feb), she will get one polite 'please put that away' before the cell phone is smashed.

taking a video on your phone while stage diving would look gay while you're doing it, but might be entertaining to watch.

or videophone the pit.

or videophone snorting coke with some random slut in the bathroom.

phones are so rock n roll.

yeah...well, we did to no avail, and being the establishment/concert it was I wasn't going to make a scene. The people behind her did though and grabbed it and literally threw it at her lap. Was pretty interesting watching this hostile occurance to somber music.
