I tend to believe that if OU moves up to the Holiday from the Alamo, that Nebraska will go to the Alamo. Both Nebraska and OU travel better than Colorado, Missouri, Iowa State and Kansas. Nebraska beat ISU and Colorado, so it is doubtful those teams pass the Huskers by, especially after CU gets a fifth loss in the Big 12 Title game.
I'm hoping Nebraska gets the Holiday or Alamo, but if not, then they'd be lucky to land in Orlando over Shreveport, especially after how bad they travelled to Shreveport in 2002.

I'm just glad that NC State became bowl eligible after starting 2-4. At 6-5, we seem to likely be headed to the Meineke Car Care Bowl here in Charlotte or Boise, although there is a possibility for the Music City Bowl.

They're saying if we lose the SEC Championship, we end up in Shreveport. Crap.

ESPN does not have their site updated yet, but NBC Sports is now doing a projection:

Rose: USC/Texas
Orange: Virginia Tech/Penn State
Sugar: LSU/WV
Fiesta: Ohio State/ND
Capital One: Wisconsin/Auburn
Gator: Miami/Louisville
Outback: Michigan/Georgia
Sun: UCLA/Northwestern
Champs Sports: Nebraska/Georgia Tech
Insight: Arizona State/Rutgers

ESPN

Ivan Maisel
USC/Texas in Rose
Viriginia Tech/Penn State in Orange
LSU/West Virginia in Sugar
ND/Ohio State in Fiesta
Wisconsin/Auburn in Capital One
Louisville/Miami in Gator
Boston College/Georgia in Peach
UCLA/Northwestern in Sun
Oregon/OU in Holiday
Iowa/Nebraska in Alamo

Pat Forde
Only difference is:
Northwestern/Georgia Tech in Music City
UCLA/Minnesota in Sun
Michigan/Georgia in Outback

I like these projections the best. Nebraska and Iowa haven't ever played in a Bowl and haven't played each other since 2000. The Hawkeyes have never been ranked when they played the Huskers and were beaten pretty soundly by Iowa State this year. They both used to be in the same conference until 1946 I believe.

I heard my Jayhawks will end up in the "Fort Worth Bowl".

Which led me to ask "There's a Fort Worth Bowl?"

I think the amount of bowls is ridiculous. It bothers more than the BCS.

Yup.

Though we probably disagree on the specifics, old, I think we're both playoff supporters. I say drop the conference championship games, extra bowls, and have a 16-team tournament (top 16 based on BCS or similar formula) through December.

No way. It's a very big deal to the teams that don't do their recruiting with fistfulls of cash.

The Poinsettia Bowl may be shit compared to the Orange Bowl, but for Navy it's gonna be a big money-maker for the program, thanks in part due to the large Naval population in San Diego. It's also a big recruiting tool.

One big reason I like NCAA football over the NFL is the wide variety of teams, competition and accessibility. There's much more to CFB than LSU or USC or Texas. I loved watching SWAC games when I was in Ruston, and most Saturdays I watch at least some of the smaller games like New Hampshire/Colgate, Harvard/Yale or Delaware/Towson.

I think it's awesome that Rutgers is bowling this year. That's a huge accomplishment for a program that has had some rough years.

I also love it when smaller programs get a chance to play, but I would buy the 'little guy' argument more if any of the smaller schools had any real chance of getting to a non-BCS bowl on January 1st. Most of the bowl bids are to "SEC team #7" instead of straight-up merit. Outback bowl has been Georgia/Wisconsin how many times the past few years? Toledo wins the MAC. They get to play in Detroit... again...

That's what makes me the total asshole that wants to do away with the BCS, bowl tie-ins based on the BCS while still not wanting to implement any sort of playoff.

I'm cool with the old bowl system.

I understand what you're saying. Trust me as an LSU fan who had to watch them in the 90's, I understand that there is more to CFB than the big teams. Still, I can't even keep track of them anymore.Soon there is gonna be more bowls than teams to play in them. Navy recruits? Actually, a friend of mine and I were talking about making a non-lsu rivalry game a year. Army-Navy is the one we're most interested in.

I feel the same way. I kind of wish they made everyone have a conference championship, and make them join a conference. Take the winners put them in a playoff.

See, this is one of those rare years where the BCS is actually an improvement over the old bowl system. I would think most fans would prefer a USC/Texas matchup as opposed to USC/Penn State and Texas/LSU-VTech.

March Madness does it right. If you have conference tie-ins, it's only one tie-in per conference, and there's a tie-in for every conference.

Army v. Navy is usually a pretty good game, and serious shit rivalry. My dad went to West Point and I have some old pictures of the cadets WHOOPING IT UP at RFK when it was played there. I'd love to go to that game, OSU v. Michigan or any of the intra-Florida rivalries.

Okay, scratch that. I can take one tie-in per conference. It's the aforementioned #7 SEC crap that bugs me.

I'll be back...lunch time.

I'd be an advocate for a playoff system if they continued to use the BCS standings like they do the RPI for Basketball. I just don't want to see a system similar to the D-II playoff system. My alma mater, the USD Coyotes finished 8-2 and beat two playoff teams, Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota, yet were left out after they lost to playoff bound Minnesota-Duluth and Non-playoff bound St. Cloud State.
I also want to see the entire D-I Playoff being held at Neutral site fields so that teams like USC and Texas do not play any games at home. That way no team really has a cakewalk to the playoff.

The current bowl rumor is that Nebraska/Oklahoma bowl bids depend on where Oregon ends up. If they would get a BCS at-large bid and UCLA ends up in the Holiday, than Nebraska would most likely be there opponent and OU would stay in the Alamo. If Oregon is available for the Holiday Bowl, then OU goes to the Holiday and Nebraska will play either Iowa or Michigan in the Alamo.

It's most likely going to be Nebraska/Iowa in the Alamo...

which means I may be making a trip in late December!
