Why remake a classic?

Oh, yea. Hollywood.

Technically, they're not. The Movie was called Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory and Wilder put such a stamp on the character that people think the book is the same as the movie. Until they read it.

I'd really like to see a new version, even though that trailer won't open up for me at the moment.

Okay, now it's playing.

Maybe Depp's going for a "Cat In The Hat as Billy Corgan" performance?"

I realize the original movie didn't follow the first book exactly, but the new trailer seems to only include near-exact clips remade from the first movie.

I've never seen that much difference from Wilder's movie and the book, anyway. If that is the excuse for a remake, it is a weak one.

They're making this movie to give classroom teachers something new to show the kids near christmas when grades are turned in and there's nothing to do.

Good will come of this.

Thats to be expected though - the trailer is trying to sell the movie. What would happen if they showed completely different clips? Everyone would be talking about how they've completely changed and ruined a movie.

Yay! Danny Elfman is doing the music, just as I wished he would.

I guess that should have been obvious.

I'm so torn over this since I love the original so much. I guess I'd be excited if it was Terry Gilliam

I wonder if they'll have The Smoking Popes on the soundtrack?

 Ooooohh I am so torn.

I mean, it's Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, together again. -sigh-.

But, I never found anything wrong with the first movie... Though Depp's Willy Wonka is actually kinda creepy.... :?

It looks like a solid return to form from Burton, who has had a few weak films lately (Big Fish was back on the right path). I am pretty sure I will be seeing this one.

It looks like Depp doing Ed Wood doing Willy Wonka. Not a good thing IMO...why was this made when the original is so good?

I thought this was supposed to be like a sequel or part 2 or something.

I have never seen the first one yet.

I thought Big Fish was a step back in the right direction but I was still a little disappointed. Maybe it was because of Ewan MacGregor though. THIS, on the other hand looks great. And yes, it's great to see Danny Elfman's name in the credits, as always but I think he's done the music for all of Burton's movies. Does anyone know if there is a Burton movie scored by someone else???
