Here's some of my run-ins (I had a friend who had a job at a record store and he scored shit-tons of meet-n-greets). Plus some of them I just wandered into myself and some were college newspaper interviews when I got to get sit down Q&A time.

Lou Reed - crusty old man
Mo Tucker - humble as they come
John Cale - a kick-ass autograph but very business like
Sterling Morrison - bought me a drink

Thom Yorke - took a picture with me and complimented me on my Williams Burroughs t-shirt
The rest of Radiohead - very friendly as well

Joe Strummer - class act all the way. Signed my London Calling album
Mick Jones (with B.A.D.) - very drunk but took photos and signed shit. Couldn't understand a word he said

Iggy Pop - took photos, signed shit, and joked around, very hummble guy

Bruce Springsteen - nice dude, took a photo, signed some stuff, I tohught he was cool

Stephen King - weird but nice

Echo & the Bunnymen - Ian was slightly aloof but gracious enough to sign my album and do a photo

Liz Phair (pre-sellout era) - cool and funny

George Clinton - I ate chicken with him on his bus and took a photo. Cool guy.

RL Burnside - talked for an hour about whippin' asses and ballin' bitches

Eddie Vedder - cool guy; very short (in height) he was having an argument with his wife. She was a bitch.

Nick Cave - cynical and aloof but deep down was a softy; autographs and photos all around

Josh Rouse - cool as fuck

Everclear - nice guys. We talked about Kiss

Chris Whitley - awesome guy...RIP

Ben Harper - righteous as fuck. Let me play one of his homemade guitars. Cool to interview.

Tricky - very down to Earth. I thought he was friendly.

John Lee Hooker - shook my hand and said "God bless ya sonny!"

Jerry Lee Lewis - signed an album, winked and said "There ya go Killer!"

The cast of Kids In The Hall - funny, friendly, good people. Scott Thompson hit on every guy there.

Chris Isaak - funny guy

Chris Connelly - cool dude

David Byrne - I thought he would be an ass but he had this big smile on his face the entire time he talked with us

G. Love - was more interested in the bowl he was hitting

John Wesley Harding - class act all the way

Jonathan Richmond - funny and friendly

Mark Eitzel - was a dick to an overeager fan who wanted some shit signed but was nice to me so...

Dave Navarro - cool guy, very short but took some time to talk (this was during Nothing Shocking days)

Billy Bragg - awesome

John Entwhistle - polite and cordial

Peter Murphy - down to earth guy

Love And Rockets - told some killer stories about the old days

Everything But The Girl - 2 solid folks who had no rock star tude at all

Danzig - total ass clown

Morrissey - actually suprised me but he looked haggard from doing the grip and grin routine

Elvis Costello - jokes all around; hit on everything with tits

Freedy Johnston - limp dick handshake but super guy

World Party - funny as fuck. We kept trading off Austin powers quotes.

PJ Harvey - shy but nice

Front 242 - drank many beers with them

Go-Betweens - cool guys

Violent Femmes - eccentric as hell

Jesus Lizzard - strange....but in a good way

Pavement - Malkmus was too busy trying to get laid but the rest of the guys were cool.

Willie Nelson - humble and mellow

Throwing Muses - the coolest

Frank Black - cool

Mike Watt - total dick

Alex Chilton - super cool

Al Green - always preachin

Simple Minds - awesome dudes

Patti Smith - cool as hell; introduced me to her Mom and said "See Mom, I have fans!"

Jim Carroll - told awesome tales from back in the day

Wayne Shorter - I love them old jazz guys and he didn't let me down; so many stories!

Sparklehorse - a hillbilly at heart; nice guy

BB King - gracious but ornery

Wilson Pickett - had some stories to tell

The Church - class act

Shane McGowan - total ass but in a good Pogues kind of way

Portishead - very short conversation but nice

Run DMC and JMJ - nice as can be

Luna - all fun to talk to

Sonic Youth - kind of meh...

Rev. Horton Heat - drunk dick; kept going on about how the FBI had tried to kill rock and roll

Ben Folds - more interested in the ladies

Charlie Watts - he had on this $10,000 suit. Very prim but signed some shit.

That's all I can think of now...

........... sorry if I bored everybody but it was fun at the time and I have some great memories.

I just picture Byrne being a weird guy on and off stage. He reminds me of an alien.

The only story I can add to this is the time I met TV on the Radio pre-show and was pretty damn tipsy. I was hoping to meet them, but was pretty nervous, so I basically ran/staggered into Tunde and said "OMG YOU GUYS FUCKING KICK A$$ YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!!111oneoneone" or something of the like. He then introduced me to Kyp Malone and (I think) subsequently introduced me to David Sitek (who's a Bmore native -- whoda thunk it?).

I then, after probably boring a bunch of people to death and sobering up with a bag of Starburst (don't ask), managed to grab a sharpie from the sounddude and got Tunde, Kyp and David to sign my Soulseek-burned copy of Young Liars. Now, if that's not gracious, then I don't know what the fuck is.

(The show kicked ass too, I must say. I acted like a total fanbitch, but Tunde thanked me for coming, so that was cool. 8) )

wouldn't it be nice to just antagonize them or confront them?

"i'm sorry am i boring you? i only paid to see your damn show and buy your albums and a t-shirt. did i do something to annoy the shit out of you, because i don't think i did. is there a reason for you being such a jerk for no reason? if you don't want to interact with fans, get the hell out of this business, you fucking c*ck sucker!"

i wonder how they would react. :?

i hope i never have to do that though.

Don't lie, I've seen you do that plenty of times. Good thing you're small, you can escape from their clutches quite easily. ;)

I just met The Azoic (all three of them), and they ended up being superlatively cool. The two chicks (one of 'em looks like Neko Case) are extremely hot (the pictures just don't do 'em justice), and I got hugs from both. I'm a happy boy. The dude was cool, too -- you gotta love someone who plays a "keytar" as his primary MIDI controller and works for Intel as his day job.

So no one here ever met Peter Gabriel before? He seems like a pretty humble guy and one of my few musical heroes I'd be comfortable shaking hands with.

Really? Why? That totally surprises me, he seems like a pretty warm, likable guy.

I've laid my hands on him, but that hardly counts.

I also have a Vanderslice story. He played a small club here about three years ago. I got to the venue unbelievably early as always and ordered a drink while he and Okkervil River loaded in their equipment. The bar wasn't officially letting patrons in, but the bartenders and owners usually think I am playing that night for some reason, despite the fact I have never performed there.
Once they got there crap inside they were looking for a place to eat, so I assisted in getting them to a near by Jimmy John's sandwich shop. They all were super cool and after the show, Vanderslice threw a hiphop dance party.

At the Deerhoof show in LA last week, Satomi and Greg Saunier were selling CDs at the merch table before they went on. I bought Reveille from Satomi, and she seemed really nice and gracious. After the show, Greg came out to talk to random people. Basically, the whole bands seems quite gracious.
