Should be announced within the hour. ESPN 1000 just broke it.

Unreal. I thought he was gone for sure. So I'm guessing Thome will preplace the big hurt at DH and Konerko will be 1B? What are they, the new Yankees?

Yeah he turned down the O's deal. Apparently Thome put in a personal call to him.

Is that your prediction for his 2006 season? Seems more likely for 2008 or 2009. He'll be 30 in 2006. His 2004 and 2005 were pretty consistent, I'd expect him to stay near that level for at least another year.

Have fun with his inevitable decline...

This is the guy that couldn't displace Erik Karros on his way up, and is only displacing Thome (because of health concerns) on the way down...

Do you know how old Konerko is?

That says more about the Dodgers than Konerko.

Konerko will be 30 at the start of Spring Training next year...
He will be doing his best Frank-Thomas-recieving-$15-mil-on-the-bench impression at 35...

I mean, he's done well the past 2 years - I'll more than give him that. However, even with Dye being healthy for 2 years in a row , you're down an OF and have 2 starters well past 40, despite what their tampered-birth-certificates say. The ChiSox have to have something break down sometime soon and, since I'm not big on Konerko, I'm going with him...

Newsflash - he's 29 now, so he'll be 34 at the end of this contract. I could care less if he's sitting on the bench receiving 13 mil a year at 35, because he won't be here.

Except for 2003, when has he ever had a bad full season? He's inconsistent within the year, but 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2005 are all about as good as you can expect from any first baseman in the league over six years.

At 29, he's hitting the peak years of his career, which should last until 32-33. At 33-34 I would expect to start breaking down, but who cares. That's the end of his contract.

Why are you guys focusing on this when there's bigger news:

The Yankees have signed Kelly Stinnett.

Best 1-2? Probably not, but 1-2-3 as far as HRs go? Konerko-Thome-Dye? That's three 30+ home run hitters.

I'm glad he didn't come to Baltimore.

I would be too...the last thing you need is another hitter. Maybe they'll actually address the pitching and finally be competitive one of these years.

On second thought, nah, no they won't.

The reason is three-fold. One, it's damn cool to see a guy stick where he was, even if he was offered more money elsewhere. I dig some loyalty.

Secondly, they don't need the bat.

Thirdly, if they bring in some big money, big named bat, the sports radio call-in goons would be applauding so hard it would lend some creedence to the worthless front office moves the organization has made for the past 8-9 years.

They don't deserve to be competitive. You shouldn't be rewarded for trying to build a successful organization. That's my #2 reason why I hate the damn Ravens. Was it Einstein that said "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result"?

Both owners need to sell their respective teams, but that'll never happen. I'm so sick of the Orioles ending up like my fantasy squad year after year...great hitting, terrible pitching and 4th place.

That's not as good as any three of A-Rod, Sheffield, Giambi, and Matsui. I'd grant Ortiz & Ramierez as best 1-2 but A-Rod & Sheff are close especially considering the park differential. No one can compete on a 1-2-3-4.

To be fair, Bisciotti only recently took the reins.

Fuck Angelos with a concrete dildo.
