here's a song by him: Sugar Man

This wasn't too bad.

David Holmes used that song on one of his mix albums. I think The Monkeywrench covered it too. Here's another song by him:

Forget It

here's a couple for you that you probably haven't heard of, though you or someone else at this board could prove me wrong.

Jude - singer-songwriter type stuff that is both catchy and witty without being cliche.

New Sense - i guess its kinda like a combination of rock and dance-pop with some occasional electronic stuff thrown in. Catchy stuff.

Apparantly he was dropped by Warner/Maverick and is now signed to a label in France somewhere. I think he recorded an album last year, but its only available online or in France.

No One Is Really Beautiful is very good. King of Yesterday sorta blew. His latest (from last year) is called Sarah, and is better, but not nearly as good as NOIRB.

He's still kicking around, playing burger joints in Reno and the like.

This conversation comes up every once in a while and I always mention how much I enjoy No One Is Really Beautiful and then go listen to it. So that's what I'm going to do now...

Also I recently got these,

Winterpills ::

Winterpills has offered up a debut of faultless, sparkling indie pop, reminiscent of the gems once tossed out by the late Elliott Smith... a perfect album." -- Perfomer Magazine

Winterpills bring you a tender, filigreed sound, a humming and a fragmentation of warmth and chill, a delicate suspension of belief. They are a band playing you songs of pretty losses and hollow hopefulness. They formed on a bare wood floor during a winter when mutual friends and potential enemies met to nurse wounds, drink, ignore the obvious, play other people's songs, and found they had their own. They now give them to you in all their friendly, angry, wimpy, moody fragility.

Winterpills will not tame you. Winterpills may hurt you. Do not let Winterpills crumble in your fingers. Do not wash off afterwards.

Mark Geary ::

"New York-based Irishman Mark Geary, a recent finalist in Disc Makers' Independent Music World Series (of which Billboard is a sponsor), offers an outstanding sophomore release in "Ghosts". His obscurity should end here: With sparse but superlative meditations like "Beautiful," "You're the Only Girl," the pretty lullaby "Mid-nite Sun" and the nearly nine-minute "Hold Tight", Geary's songwriting and delivery recall such top contemporary practitioners as Ron Sexsmith. "Ghosts" also evokes Van Morrison, particularly his early-1970s era. Perhaps most satisfying about the album is that such a project can be released in 2005 at all - apart from occasional drum programming, these are fully organic, natural-sounding recordings; vocoder, synthesizers and other sound manipulators need not apply. "Ghosts" is a collection of superb songs delivered with a quiet intensity that will endear itself to listeners." Billboard Magazine, January 2005.
