Must...hear...this...tonight.

I was gonna type in Sound Affects in that other thread about "important CDs"...A friend whose brother was in London introduced me to the Jam early on. I remember trying to find Sound Affects & Setting Sons in local stores, with no luck.

The Jam are one of thye most underappreciated bands in rock history.
All Mod Cons is in my personal top 5 albums and there are probably 6 or 7 Jam tunes in my top 50 songs ... In The City, New Art School, Down in the Tube Station at Midnight, Butterfly Collector, Mr. Clean, Smithers Jones, That's Entertainment, Eton Rifles, Funeral Pyre. I think I'll put something right now.

Not on this side of the Atlantic. They were sort of the Oasis of their day, they had several number 1's in the proper pop charts.

If anyone thinks Bloc Party are a band I'd direct them to 'Sound Effects' so they can hear where the songs actually originated.

I've been listening to All Mod Cons and This Is The Modern World a lot lately thanks to Radcliffe (Thanks Rad, I appreciate it). Its a shame that they never caused much of a stir here.

Yeah, it's pretty bizarre. I always hear that they were "too British", but what the hell does that mean? And wtf is up with how impossible it is to find In The City here? I had to settle for vinyl finally.

The only Jam cd I own is "Extras". I do, however, have their entire discography on vinyl--singles, eps, and lps. I don't consider it "settling" at all.

Good point. It's not that I mind vinyl, but it does piss me off that I can't listen to "In The City" in the car.

Buy a component burner like this one: Image and you're golden. I've recorded much of my favorite vinyl to CD-R and take it with me in the car, or wherever.

I've got an H-K CDR that generally does the trick. Analog inputs rule!
