It's hard to define 'strange' in terms of a record collection. That Spider-man one certainly qualifies. I was thinking in terms of deviation from the usual run if one was checking out yr collection. But on the other hand, just for pure strangeness/oddity, I picked this up used and it's pretty creepy only because he sounds as old as Methuselah but considerably more menacing.

I have a copy of Tapestry from Argentina.

Phranc :: I Enjoy Being A Girl, including the smash hit "M-A-R-T-I-N-A", where Phranc spells "C-Z-E-C-H-O-S-L-O-V-A-K-I-A" in the song.

Mr. Ernie Rettino & Mrs. Debby Kerner :: More Than Friends, with a cover of the duo. It looks like the front man for Spin Doctors started shopping for trim down at the local middle school.

Hatebeak :: Beak of Putrefaction, 7" on clear vinyl. Metal with Parrot vocals.

If that's the case, this is the first one that comes to mind :

I don't actually own this album, but I have the CD single of "Crush". Love that song.

Not a "weird" selection per se, but it kinda stands out in the row of CD's that also contains Graham Parker & The Outfield.

The Ren & Stimpy album, with the Abbey Road cover. Not that far out I guess.

I also own the cd Old Kentucky's former band put out.

Actually my strangest is probably Kurt Schwitters Ursonate.

Image

Schwitters was a German Dadaist painter/sculptor/art-weirdo of the early 20th century (Trivia for Japanese noise fans: he named his room-filling sculptures "merzbau," which evidently means something like "trash construction"). The Ursonate is a piece of nonsense sound poetry which goes something like this:

Foomz bow woah tah zah ooo perrr gif kweeee-ay
Daygenz derrr lee-ay mullf tullf too kee wooOO kah
Rrrunska pay-bay mmm kerrr mooo
Zee-in zee-in termms kerrr mooo

...and so on for 40 minutes. I will recite a section of this poem loudly and lustily with minimal provocation.

More trivia: The lyrics to Talking Heads' "I Zimbra" were originally from a similar sound poem by Schwitters' contemporary Hugo Ball.

So it's like Sigur Ros, but with more words?

There's a fantastic stripped down version of this on the "Miniatures" compilation--it's the George Melly track.

So it's like Sigur Ros, but with less Finnish?

That's the bit I memorized. I've never yelled it into a piano like he does, though.
