Would you ever consider an up-side down Christmas tree? Maybe they're marketing these to home sick Aussies?

Evoking a 12th century Central European tradition of hanging a tree from the ceiling at Christmas...

Really?

My dad mentioned this to me. I thought it looked retarded and obnoxious.

Then we found some online and looked at the prices.

I stood by my original opinion.

Maybe, but it's easier to hang yourself from it.

If I remember right the upside down fir predates the Christmas tree and was used about 7-12th centuries to represent the Holy Trinity. Called "God's Tree."

Wow, you smart, gentlespoon! You obviously didn't have time to google that. (Do you wear a black suit in your work?)

Googling now, though.

Apparently it was used as a sign from one fellow early Christian to another that the belief of The Trinity was shared.

So, if you entered a home, business or whatever and there was an upside down fir hanging somewhere, even a small one, you'd know you were among fellow believers, even if the surrounding climate were hostile to Christians.

Well, that settles it. I'll stick with my traditional red plastic tinsel tree. Right-side up.

Most every custom is weird if you think about it hard enough.

I mean do we ASK the trees if they want to be cut down and stuck in our ugh-fughly apartments and crappy townhouses?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

 Good point. I'll have to figure out how to set the clock here.

Help me out please. What's the west coast of North America's relationship to GMT? Friends don't make friends do math.

liar! that's really strange. you basically time warp if you were to fly from here to there, and then back. You'd go from one day to another within hours, and then you'd go backwards coming back home.

I'm late to the party on this... how did I miss this thread???

We operate a small gallery and I suggested that we do an upside down tree last year. they thought I was nuts. Now they want to do it. go figure.

Duuno, but I saw one of these in a shop window about 10 years ago, and at the time it seemed pretty cool. The ornaments and tinsel all hang downward in a cascading effect. Can't fault anyone for trying something different.
