I agree with those who say go with sound isolating phones. You can listen to them at a lot lower volume, so they won't do as much damage to your hearing. I love my Shure E2c's, although they block outside noise so well that they might be dangerous if you're walking near traffic.

The Ety er-6i blow away the Shure E2c's without an amp. I have lived with both. Night and day comparison.

i'm at a starbucks right now and it's reasonably NOT loud. i don't have plugs on now and I can hear everybody's conversation, the volumes is at a reasonable level as well. if i had my earplugs on i could probably hear the music better. :?

Yeah, but earplugs aren't flat (frequency response). This sounds like a terrible idea. Try this again -- at a reasonable volume -- without the earplugs, in an environment where isolation doesn't matter, and tell me whether or not you're getting the best out of your headphones.

I specifically said in an environment where isolation does not matter. The idea was so that you could hear the difference between headphones and phones with earplugs.

And so could everyone else (hear your music). Why don't you just get a pair of Ety's? They're like earplugs and headphones built into one, and (get this) -- with the headphones on the correct side of the earplug!

I've heard very good things about the Sennheiser HD201s, apparently amazing for the price.

Been seeing the HD202 around more than the 201's anybody know the difference?
