Specifically Haq and Chase, but whomever.

I have some serious free time. I am currently going out Lost Weekend style, drinking too much, abusing dangerous chemicals, sniffing Krylon from plastic bags and trying to slay local waitresses.

While all this is fun, me wanna do something constructive. Like learn HTML. Should I enroll in a class or just get one of those books. Mind you I am highly unintelligent and unmotivated. But I want my own website and not just some shitty blog.

I have the coin to drop on hosting, etc..but kind of feel that building this up from scratch would be a boon to me personally.

Advice, please.

i learned the basic on a site that explained html to kids, and then ripped off code from other sites.

GAR - in all honesty, the thing that will drive your need to know more code is what you have in mind for the site. I don't want *anything* flashy or distracting or Radiohead's old site creative in my design "aesthetic," and as such, getting to a point where I'm a master at Flash isn't entirely necessary.

I had a lot of fun learning html almost entirely on my own and I still get a kick out of learning misc things here and there. I'm sure a class would be great, but I think reverse-engineering sites (view source) and simply DIY'ing it is a lot more fun, even if I still can't do a lot with it.

i don't think that any class that you take will move fast enough for you, to be honest, unless you're the dumbest slowest guy in the class, which i don't think that you are, because that's the speed that it'll go at.

I was afraid of this as well. I know more than I know I know about computers, so you are correct that if it was slow it might drive me crazy. I just don't want to put up anything janky, either.

I guess I just need to decide to do it, and do it. Kinda like that novel I've been meaning to write or the screenplay, or that essay, or those columns...

well, find a site that you like and we'll tell you how long it would take you to figure out how to do it yourself, maybe?

That's actually a pretty fucking good idea. I will look into and report back. Thanks, G.
