I Don't Want To Play Football

I don't want to play football
I don't understand the thrill of the game
I don't want to play football
I don't understand the thrill of running, catching, throwing
Taking orders from a moron
Grabbing for the sweaty crotches
Getting hit by people I don't know
Sugar, I'd rather play a different sort of game
Sugar, the girls are just as good as boys at playing

Feed 'Em to the Lions (Linden) by Pavement

Every building same height
Every street a straight line
Team colours yellow and blue

Cheerlead single file
Perfect smiles unaffected
And you won?t forget our colours blue
And you won?t forget it

Twenty miles westward
Home of the red birds
Team colours crimson blue

Open up your purses
For the boys who reimburse us
With their goal line stand on fourth and two
And that goal line stand

Summer?s dry and fallow
Reservoirs are shallow
Spillways unexposed

It?s never been inspected
When the government?s elected
And the fields will turn to yellow too
And the fields will turn

Beat me to it. Though it may be a mysterious Malkmus metaphor.

while i'm having a hard time finding entire songs, here's some lyrical references:

"i slam tracks like quarterback sacks from LT"-- inspectah deck, "wu tang clan ain't nuthin' ta fuck with"

"and all the world is football-shaped
it's just for me to kick in space"---xtc, "senses working overtime" (although not so much talking about the american variety)

um... "high school football hero" by (pre-goth) AFI?

I thought it was "it's just for me to kick its face"? Meh.

If you expand it that way it opens up a huge number of songs.

All pale in comparison to Tim McGraw's AWESOME songs that he writes for MNF every week to his smash hit "I Like It, I Love It".

It's like watching Sportscenter but I can do a little two step to it!

Bill Simmons parodied that atrocity last week. (obviously BEFORE the Panthers game, Vick didnt lower the boom on anybody but the turf as he was getting driven into it)

Quote:
Chad Johnson did a special dance in the Steel City
J.P. Losman murdered the Bills once again, it's such a pity
In Minnesota the Ewing Theory replaced the Sex Cruise
In Baltimore Billick sees Boller and thinks about booze

Harrington gunned down Matt Millen in the locker room
Vick went into Carolina and he lowered the boom
Because I like it, I love it, I want some more of it
I try so hard, I can't rise above it.
Don't know what it is 'bout the pushin' and the shovin'
But I like it, I love it, I want some more of it

(Did you ever try to predict the Tim McGraw lyrics on Monday Night Football? Um ... me neither ... )

And the follow-up smash "Momma, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys".

<===Has seen all of the DC sports teams live:

Skins
Caps
Bullets
Diplomats
O's

Haven't seen the Nationals yet, but I saw the Expos a few times.
