BEST SHOW OF 2005:
There were a lot of great shows this year, but I think Arcade Fire wins ever so slightly. Seeing them right before hitting it huge in the US, in a small club, on my birthday -- it couldn't have been better.

HONOURABLE MENTION OF 2005:
Teenage Fanclub in Glasgow -- seeing them with a hometown crowd after several years of not performing live was incredible. The love felt in that venue was something rarely felt with other bands and it was incredible to feel the respect of the audience.

3/15/05 - Panthers, Turing Machine, Parts and Labor @ The Drunken Unicorn, Atlanta. Whiney & PaL were cool, but HOLY FUCK... TURING MACHINE!!!!!. Fuck yeah. Panthers sucked so I left.
4/1/05 - ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead @ Criminal Records, Atlanta (free in-store show). This was neat. I'm not a big ToD fan, but they played toward their softer side and did some cool covers.
4/15/05 - Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power @ The 40 Watt, Athens. Met Yail & Derris and briefly met discostu. Never heard Elf Power before, but they were good and did a nice cover of "Reuters". OTC rocked and played for-fucking-ever (like 2+ hours, maybe?).
4/27/05 - Mountain Goats, Shearwater, Horses @ The Earl, Atlanta. Darnielle was great as always, and I was pleasantly surprised by Shearwater. They closed with a Talk Talk cover.

7/23/05 - Bruce Springsteen @ Philips Arena, Atl. My friend and I got free tickets. Great show, but we were hoping he'd play more from Nebraska and Ghost of Tom Joad. He only played one song from each.
8/18/05 - Smog @ The Earl. Solid show. Played a nice variety of old and new, and closed with an awesome version of "Cold Blooded Old Times".
9/21/05 - Dungen, Mia Doi Todd @ The Drunken Uncorn. Dungen is like a lost super-group from the early '70s. I never see people who can play like that anymore, who can jam and actually keep it entertaining. However, Mia Doi Todd as an opener was one of the most unfortunate match-ups I've ever seen.
10/8/05 - Gang of Four, Morningwood @ Earthlink Live, Atl. Incredible. Fuck the Rolling Stones. This show was $20. Afterwards, we even got to see a few minutes of the Calla show next door.
12/16/05 - Iron & Wine, Calexico, Salvador Duran, Jim White @ The Variety Playhouse, Atl. Highly entertaining show. Jim White was ballsy but not exactly what I'd call "good". Iron & Wine's set was a little disappointing, but Calexico rocked as always. The two together were pretty amazing (I counted 11 people on stage at one point) as was Salvador Duran, the Mexican dude who sings on "In the Reins" and also did a short solo set between the separate Calexico and Iron & Wine sets. Also we got some pretty choice seats at the front of the balcony.
