From the list presented I'd probably go with:

1. Underworld * Second Toughest In The Infants (TVT/Wax Trax)
2. Beck - Odelay
3. DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
4. Everything But The Girl * Walking Wounded (Atlantic)
5. Dead Can Dance * Spiritchaser (4AD)
6. Lamb (Mercury)
7. Orbital * In Sides
8. Jamiroquai * Travelling Without Moving (Work)
9. Jason Falkner * Present Author Unknown (Elektra)
10. The Posies - Amazing Disgrace
11. Future Sound Of London * Dead Cities (Astralwerks)

Agreed

On this list, yes. I don't think I picked it up until the spring of the following year, so in my head that's a 1997 album ;)

AND SPADE, HOW DO YOU FORGET:

Oh, that's right, white folks didn't get into Outkast until Stankonia.

So, I'm voting OTHER.

Dammit, I KNEW I was white! This changes EVERYTHING!

nice choice!

Thanks.

This was less deserving of the ignorance than Pinkerton, as well.

There has yet to be an ex post facto emergence of love for it, though... Guess Sponge isn't "ironic" enough - yet.

"plowed" is on a mixtape in my car and always gets a reaction from passengers. it's usually something like the following:

"oh my god, i haven't heard this in years!"
[about a minute goes by]
"i don't remember this being so good."

Wasn't that a 1995 release?

And, while having some very high highs, it IS a double album, and a double rap album, so it has the massive filler.

Me Against the World was 'Pac's magnum opus

according to Amazon - February 13, 1996
and i think it kicks the shit out of Me Against the World.

the production is so insane, it's one of the few double albums i can sit and listen to all the way through.

It's also where he went from thoughtful thuggishness to out and out "WESS SIIIDE" buffoonery. No thanks.

I went with Wilco but could have just as easily gone with REM's New Adventures. I'm not a huge REM fan or anything but that album is amazing. Still, I listen to and enjoy Wilco more, especially this album.

Probably Underworld -- I musta listened to that album to death. Lots of good contenders, though: Ende Neu (Einstur...), Aphex Twin (Richard D James Album), Bjork, Orbital (In Sides)...

I went "other" with I Feel Alright from Steve Earle getting the nod. One of my favorite albums of 1996 or any year for that matter.

2nd choice would probably be On Avery Island

Voted DJ Shadow, but could've just as easily gone for other with NMH. Also good that year were Belle & Sebastian, Tricky, Guided By Voices, and Afghan Whigs. And more I'm forgetting I'm sure.
