Godfather III and Episode I of Star Wars, only due to the fact that I had anticipated how great both films should be and was so unbelievably pissed at what turds they were.
There are some truly awful sequels to movies that should have never had sequels like Chronicles of Riddick, Mummy II, Bring it on again, Saw II, Cheaper by the Dozen II and Father of the Bride II.

Yeah, add a few more on for me. This must be one of those FAS cases I've heard so much about.

I would vote for the sequel being pretty fucking horrible. Also I'd add on Fletch Lives. For the action-comedy that it aspired to be, Lethal Weapon I and II weren't bad (especially with the cartoonishly evil South African villians in II) but fucking hell the last two were just shitty. I couldn't get through 30 min of IV. Same with Vacation. I just can't get behind anything other than the first one, but they just kept getting steadily worse over time, which likely corresponded to Chevy's pill popping and comedy killzone.

]Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome For the longest time I fantasized about a fourth Mad Max movie, in which Kennedy/Miller would have appeared before the credits and apologize for Thunderdome, and, like a judge, instruct us to disregard it entirely.

Another lousy sequel--Shock Treatment, the Rocky Horror sequel.

Yeah, the sequels sucked while the first was absolutely hilarious.

I kind of liked The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, but not the Scorpion King.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Matrix sequels yet. Blech.

Seconded. However, I do enjoy the first one . . . just not as much as the second.

Those were definitely awful, but I found the original got harder and harder to watch even before the first sequel came out. Not many people agree with me on that, but I got sick of the Matrix after watching it for the 2nd time.

I despise Alien: Resurection although I know one or two people who love it.

I actually went to see Blues Brothers 2000 in the theater when I was in high school. Ugh.

And of course there are all of the usually-straight-to-video sequels that Disney has made to all of their classics in what must be a George Lucas-rivaling attempt to utterly destroy their own legacy. I saw the first 5 or so minutes of a recent sequel they made to the Jungle Book. Words fail me. Horrible right down to the hideous computer-shading.

Batman Begins was pretty good.

Batman & Robin could probably qualify as one of the Top 10 worst sequels ever. Batman Forever is a good movie by comparison.

Star Wars PT bashers -

What about Hamill's acting was any better than Christensen's?
What about the OT storylines was any less hackneyed than the PT storylines?

Return of the Jedi is way worse of a film than either Ep. 2 or 3. Ewoks? C3PO as a god? Hamill's terrible terrible acting? The whole middle hour is an abomination.

Just because you saw it 8 million times as a kid and automatically excuse the pitfalls doesn't mean they aren't there...

Even that middle hour is way better than Episode 2. The love scene between Anakin & Padme, the ridiculous gladiator scene, Wattle the Italian stereotype who always seems on the verge of shouting "Mitochondrians?! That's a spicy meat-a-ball!" Awful.

episode I was still much much much much much much worse than Jedi.

i'll take a whole ewok movie (made without computers and such) over one more frame with Jar Jar or young anikan and that shitty ass pod race.

I think I give more credit to the original star wars actors because none of them were box office stars at the start of the series. Lucas went with no names he could pay next to nothing.
The new series revolved around getting some relatively big names and establishing some people's career a.k.a Christiansen. Lucas also only directed one of the original trilogy, something that doomed that the latest three films. He is a genius when it comes to effects, but he can't write nor can he really direct his vision.
To me Hamill is just a big whiny bitch, but his acting isn't as dull as Christiansen

I have to admit that while I don't feel as strongly about it as Spade here, I do see where he's coming from. The acting in all of the movies were fucking terrible, Harrison Ford included. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the movies. The earlier Star Wars films get a pass because they were new. People hadn't seen anything like that before and nostalgia for 'what was' will always trump the new versions. Between 1983 and the release of PM, there were many, many fantastic and thrilling movies that we all got sensitized to and we lost our 'wonder' for lack of a better word. When the new prequels were rolled out, we all said exclaimed ad nauseum how terrible they were. Obviously we can't roll back time, but I suspect that we all wouldn't fawn over the first three as the superior series if it came out now and we would trash 'Jedi' as badly as PM if not worse because of the goddamn muppets.

Grease 2, anyone?
Stayin' Alive

I agree on the Star Wars prequel dislike, 'cept the last one was okay.

Hamill's acting wasn't better than Christensen's. In fact the acting is just as terrible in SW as it was in any of the prequels. The difference being: there were no BIG NAMES (aside from Alec Guinness and maybe Peter Cushing) involved in A New Hope. Yeah, Harrison Ford got big afterwards, but he wasn't really a well-known actor. None of them were. I think I just hated seeing people like Ewan Macgregor, Liam Neeson, and Natalie Portman being forced to act so flat. I expect that kind of stuff from Hayden.

And I agree on ROTJ. Worst of the three. Empire is my favorite.

As for storylines, I guess with the original 3, there was some cohesive line of thought. I felt like with the prequels, there was a lot of stuff brought up that was never really followed up on. Now granted, I was a big freak about SW as a kid, and not so much a freak on the prequels (just an age/priority thing, I guess), so maybe I haven't put in the time and energy like I would have when I was 10-11.

This is true. I can't even imagine how bad that Rambo flick will be. What the hell is Rocko and Rambo gonna do in these movies. Troutman is dead, so is Adrian, Apollo, Mickey. Is he just gonna wander around and occasionally punch or shoot haphazardly in a punch-drunk/PTSD daze?
