not the final mix, and certainly not mastered...but I really liked the way it turned out yesterday so I thought I'd share. Let me know what you think.

It's called "Caught in the Middle"

(copy and paste the link and change hxxp to http)

Good use of the word milieu. :)

Right channel guitar has a good Strokes quality to it - not sure if that's intentional or not, but right on either way.

Hey my band has a forthcoming album too! Hmm...

ha! thanks man. So many people have said "what's that fucking word?" I was beginning to think I was misusing it...

Thanks for the strokes nod on the guitar...not necessarily intentional, but definitely a cool comparison by me!

yeah, dig that strokes twang.

cool, straightforward indie rock song. kind of sounds like early 90's college rock to me.

stops it from being a direct link from obner to YSI, which they can detect

if they get heaps of links from one place, it's a little suspicious

Me likey. Hope you don't think I'm being a dick, but the vocals are a little nondescript for the first verse or so. Really hits its stride (vocals and all) in the last half, and the breakdown is pretty cool. I want to hear the rest.

I really appreciate the honest feedback, actually! The vocals in the first two lines in particular bother me, but I really like the way the melody holds back until later. I'm hoping we can address this somehow without losing the dynamics of the song. Thanks for the compliments though! We should be done with the album sometime in February and it should be out by Easter.

Yeah, no offense, but this song starts weak and totally sticks on you (inagoodway)about a third in. Well done, just a little tweaking really.

I pretty much agree that it starts off weak then picks up. I don't really like that opening quasi-guitar solo, I don't know if it's the guitar tone or what. The one at the end is fine though. Starts to sound like Sorry About Dresden/Superchunk/Archers of Loaf at what I think is the bridge around the halfway point, which is where I really start to enjoy the song.

I doubt Obner is going to pop up on their radar, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry, even if it is a legally distributed track.

And I LOVE this tune. It sounds so good.

is it just the vocal line that you guys think is weak? Would this be ameliorated by singing an octave up?

I haven't listened yet, but maybe you should sing into a soup can to match the vocal effect to the strokes guitar ;)

I was just going to recommend this.

Dude, think Beastie Boys - broken mics!

(just kidding)

Quite possibly. It's not so much the line or the melody as the delivery that gets me; kind of stock "indie-rock" (I can't believe I just used that as a term, bleck.) For whatever reason, I don't get that as the song goes on.

I think everyone thinks the vocals are too emo. I think they're fine though.
