that's a definite but he said "debuted in the last five years" as a caveat.

I think the fact that they got called out in "High Fidelity" for the derivative crap they are pretty much scuttles Green Day.

Decemberists?
Drive-By Truckers?
Ted Leo?
Interpol?
Franz Ferdinand?
The Hold Steady?

Dunno, some of those might be too early, and I can't imagine them being inducted..... I got nothin'.

I would definitely say the White Stripes and Modest Mouse if it weren't for that damn five year rule.

Of the bands that I can think of that debuted 2000 or later, the only ones that seem obvious to me are the Shins and the Strokes. Maybe Sufjan Stevens.

Yeah really. I think I'd have an easy time defending Loogar's pick of Clinton as a top 5 president than most of these selections as likely RnR HOF members. At least there's a relatively finite number of Presidents.

The Strokes

It's not very inventive, it's just a guess based on interesting work and maybe predictive of future direction. On the other hand, they could all dry up and blow away like so many other forgotten bands.

I doubt the Strokes will get in as they haven't proven anything, unless they up the ante, plus what do they bring to the table? The criteria is to be a noteworthy band. What would the Strokes be?

I think that Pharell's a stronger bet than most everything previously posted. At least he's made some hits.

So you've got your crystal ball and have seen what they'll do in the next 25 years in order to achieve that covet hall of fame spot?

It's a guess, a supposition. They've got as much a chance in this guessing game as Interpol. They're both derivative. And why not Dusty?

Great topic, z.

If Sufjan pulls off the 50 states project with any amount of success, that alone will be an HOF exhibit whether it gets him in or not.

Popular... respected within their own genre... debut in the last five years... Linkin Park!!!!

Possibilites for z's sister's paper
Antony & the Johnsons
Shins
Devendra Banhart
Iron & Wine

doesn't make the five year cut
Damien Jurado
Queens of the Stone Age
Lightning Bolt

only if they expand genres (which might be within scope of the paper)
The Streets

I thought about Mike first, actually. Love these two albums.
