I've really been digging this album:

[img][200:200]http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000A2H4PM.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg[/img]

But I just discovered this little factoid:

Wikipedia Wrote:
Within this movement, the codeword 14/88 is popular in some circles, with the 88 representing David Lane's 88 precepts, or sometimes the eighth letter in the alphabet, H, to represent Heil Hitler. The White Pride movement encompasses Neo-Nazi groups, but is neither limited to Nazism nor is defined by a consistent racialist ideology. Its unifying feature is a membership comprised of non-Jewish, Caucasian genealogical background who follow various race-centred doctrines.

So what's the deal? Aural? Dnorwood? Anybody? Is there any connection to the band and the white supremacy movement - or is it meant as (misguided) irony? Or is the band as ignorant of this reading of their name as I was?

From the website, www.the88.net

"Two sides to every story, a third man in the shadows, seven lords a leapin', a land of a thousand dances, fifty ways to leave your lover. 88 keys on the piano....88 constellations in the sky....the infinity sign....the most auspicious number in china....88 mph to get Back To The Future...88 cities in Los Angeles...a great French Kicks song. Welcome to the world of the 88."

Yeah I don't get it. Where's the 14 part?

I guess they forgot one connotation then.

I usually don't give white supremacist bands that much credit for clever. Like Rahowa. I mean, if you're gonna get a huge swastika tattooed on your neck, do you really have a use for subtlety?

That's what had me so confused. The 88 are way too Freddy Mercury for the white supremacist crowd.

the 88 has a huge oc fanbase... but i don't think it has anything to do with white supremacy. definitely didn't look like it at their show.

Yeah, I don't think I'd associate them with the white supremacist movement. I didn't think that was even possible in southern California! Besides aren't white supremacists against everyone who has some sort of foreign association? I think they've got Latino guys in the group.

I do love, love, love this album though. Now I gotta get the first one! ;)

Probably just an unfortunate coincidence. S'weird. I was pushing this album on another MB full of old codgers who HATE new music, and the white power link was the first thing they latched onto.

So I'll continue to push. And dig.

You don't know the half of it. Most of them are around my age, but they make me realize why teens and twenty-somethings think people over 40 are irredeemable morons. Fuckers will bitch about how there's been no good music since Cream broke up, but the only "new" band they've ever heard is Green Day. And the weird thing is that many of them were deeply into music in the '70s, digging into the most obscure, under-the-radar stuff they could find back then - and yet they apparently think that in the '00s nothing exists outside of the mainstream.

I mean, I understand letting the music obsession go. I understand why someone would just give up on trying to find those current gems. But I can't understand the knee-jerk contempt for everything new.

Based on the AMG review and other opinions on the board, I'm intrigued to hear this.

I wouldn't want to send garbage as a gift. It's for your own good.

It sounds like a totally different band. The new stuff at:
http://www.myspace.com/the88

sounds way better than the 3 tracks from their first disc at:

Send it with the mix.

Mix is already in the mail. I'll have to post the cat log to you separately.
