I don't think that there is any truly important rock bands right now. I think that a lot of producers have had more influence on the way music sounds right now then any new band. I think that producers like the Neptunes, Kanye West, Prince Paul, Dan the Automater and Dangermouse are some of the most important figures of music right now. That being said I also think that Damon Albarn is another important figure music right now with Blur, Gorillaz and his world music.

in terms of influential, i say wilco. 10 years from now, people will remember wilco as being quite influential.

green day, i can see why people would say them but i wouldn't deem them as important. in the mainstream eyes, sure.

the strokes & the white stripes, i don't think so. 10 years from now, do you think people would really remember them as being "important" and "influential?" (don't get me wrong, i like both bands but just sayin.')

I hope people I don't know remember the Bon Savants. That's what I aspire to.

I would define "important" here as mostly: meaning a good deal to a large number of people and contributing significantly to the "sound" of the music of the day.

You just answered your own question regarding the importance of The Strokes.

I might have answered my question if we were listing ALL bands that meet those criteria to any extent, but as soon as you insert the word "most," you have to justify why one band that fits both criteria does so to a greater extent than another band.

What if they actually like the band? Then they'll only swear more.

And some of our lyrics have "fucked" "damn" and "Schroedinger" as words. CONFLICT.

We just finished mixing it. It's not mastered yet. Song order is also ytd. It will be either 10 or 11 songs in length.

And we get to shop it to labels and stuff now. All we want is someone to pick up the tab on the duplication.

Hey major labels have called and whatnot.

We also need a manager.

Glad to hear you liked what you heard on the sites. And Faces on Film, too. Love those guys.

<<Green Day don't "matter" but they are "most important" right now. >>

I think important implies mattering artistically. I have always associated the term with an act that is both good AND popular. I think the reason that this topic is so befuddling is that in today's rock climate there is much less overlap between 'good' and 'popular' than there used to be. If you completely eliminate the artistic merit factor from 'important' and just go by buzz or imitation than you could say that a few years ago Britney Spears was the most important artist on the planet and that sounds perverse.

Green Day it's true has spawned a ton of imitators. What I find interesting is that if you look closely at them they more resemble Blink 182, a Green Day imitator themselves, than the actual Green Day! I disagree that Green Day will be the big model going forward because they've been around way too long. Seems like the new is what is always imitated. Also what they are doing now doesn't seem as amenable to imitation as what they used to be. It's probably more complex but that will produce less copycats.

I'd probably go with Wilco.
