At least 5-10 years from now, I'm hoping that it will obtain that status.
It is that good, IMO.
Of course now is too soon to tell, but...

Right on.
EASILY my #1 of this year.

i keep hearing such great things about andrew bird.

but i really didn't enjoy him when i saw him open for ani last february. :(
in fact, he's kind of come to be a joke between me and the friends i was at the show with.

I liked it on first listen, but it is still a grower. I like it more and more with each subsequent spin. It just gets better and better.
At this point it would almost certainly make a future Listmania!

I can see how someone might not like it in that his voice is kinda mopey-sounding, but then so are a lot of "indie" singers. The compositions, themselves are gorgeous and the arrangements are lush and beautiful without sounding overdone, IMO.

i haven't heard the whole album, but i'm only lukewarm on what i have heard. a lot of my friends here love him, though. i saw him with a small ensemble last december and he covered new order's "ceremony" on fiddle. oh my god, what a smokin' hot rendition. otherwise, not too impressed.

I dig it a lot. Heard it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and have been spinning it fairly regularly since then. It actually is a perfect soundtrack to the snowy weather outside. Agree with Todd here.

In fact, I'm putting it on right now.

Monsters? Monsters what walk the Earth. Definitely in my top 5 this year, I just don't get how somebody can dislike this.

i was hoping that show would impress me, but i ended up sitting in the shade and only listening to him. by the time i actually got up and walked over there, it felt like i'd walked into a movie after all the characters had been established. i felt no connection to what was happening on the stage, but people i know who were there from the start raved about how good it'd been. of course, i ended up forgetting about almost everything else that weekend after les savy fav.

Same here. I've heard some live material and liked it, but never ventured out to buy any of his records. After Xmas I'll pick this record up.

Todd,

Is this your first exposure to Andrew Bird? If so, get ye to a store and pick up The Swimming Hour.

Mysterious Productions is IMHO by far his worst, least interesting effort. Everyone will now proceed to call me crazy.

I don't hate it. I do plan to trade it in next trip to Amoeba though because if I'm in a mood for Bird, I'll always grab one of the others.

Definitely a fine album. Likely won't be #1 for me this year, but has a good chance of being in the top 5. I still have a lot of listening to do before I decide, though.

This album was getting heavy rotation on Nebraska's college radio station. I've liked everything I have heard on it so far.
As for Antony and the Johnsons, I have only heard You are my sister, but I thought it was beautiful.

Wow, I just can't really get into Oh, the Grandeur! all that much. By the end, I'm sick of it and its seemingly sameness throughout.

I think Mysterious Production of Eggs is right up there with The Swimming Hour.

Yeah it worked excellently. I saw Pelican right after that show, I think.

Yeah, I remember you saying this before....I still havent heard The Swimming Hour (ill prolly try to pick it up at some point) but Radcliffe sent me Weather Systems and while I like it fine----its not as good as The Mysterious Production of Eggs.

He's got a very Malkmus quality to his voice, but he can sing however.

This was one of those albums that i liked at first but the subtleties slowly opened up for me after repeated listens and I liked it more. I'm not sure if it would be in my top 5, but it's up there.

top 5'er for me too.

i saw him open for MMJ a few years back. he was phenomenal. he would loop a guitar line, then put his guitar down and pick up his violin. it was awesome. i have never been so captivated by a solo artist live. and the man can whistle!

then he joined MMJ for a couple songs on violin which kicked ass.

I think it starts strong, then wanes, and then becomes annoying.
