I didn't pay attention in science class. What the hell does this mean in relation to weather. I was just checking our weather because we are getting killed with snow. I know it's supposed to be 30, but what does that mean?

Does it meter baro?

I don't completely understand it, but I think you often get storms when different pressure fronts converge (high vs. low). So, when the barometer starts changing, I think that can be a sign of an oncoming storm. Or something like that, but I could be completely wrong.

decreasing pressure is usually a sign of storms

im guessing the number 30 is 30 inches of mercury, but pressure can be measured in quite a few different units

It either measure the amount of alcohol you consume, or the number of bars you hop.

Barometric pressure has to do with the movement of the atmosphere. This is a really simplistic definition, but basically the atmosphere sloshes around the world as a liquid would in a container, so there are places that have a higher density of atmosphere and places that are lower. High pressure prevents clouds from moving in because it's an obstacle that the clouds simply move around, flowing from one low-pressure area to another. So when you see the weather forecast and they talk about "highs" and "lows" that's what they're saying - "there's a ridge of high pressure air" means that there won't be any rain, or maybe just some very high clouds. So when they say they the barometric pressure is "X and falling," it means that clouds are likely to be drifting into your area soon. You know you have some nasty stuff coming in when you see the clouds coming in really low.

Nah, I just read it somewhere recently, have no idea where - it just stuck in my head as one of those weird, interesting explanations of the everyday things we tend to just ignore. My head's pretty much entirely filled with essentially useless stuff like that.
