I can't find Common Children, but I did find their newest band "Hammock" which just does instrumentals. :(

switchfoot's "the legend of chin" is my favorite.

one of the northern records bands, the billions, hail from kc and their first record is magnificent.

derek webb of caedmon's call has some good solo material and has a new one coming out that's super-heavy, lyrically.

if he likes audio adrenaline and all that crap, you can ween him away with nickel and dime, ridgely or maybe some jackopierce. i like juliana theory but, agreed, their last album sucked so very much.

there's a guy named brian kieta who i like very much, but i don't know if he's still around.

if he goes punk, get him mxpx. ;)

dang, now I have a bunch more to check out...

I thought I had just narrowed it down to John Davis and Switchfoot.

I somehow listened to The Billions during this quest and they were pretty good, but not quite what I wanted/ liked. :P

Timmy, your brother may like the Scissor Sisters. This Christian thing is a cover.

I like that Tits on the Radio song, but I don't think he would appreciate it.

Oh yeah, Hammock is a sort Sigur Ros/Explosions in the Sky type of thing. Marc Byrd is in Common Chidren, Hammock, and The Choir now. He's a busy man. (Common Children is disbanded though)

South Pacific, any chance you'd have that stuff on Colinswood?

Three bands he really likes are:

Sanctus Real
Newsboys
Audio Adrenaline

Oh, well, if that's what he's into then my previous recommendations might not be as ideal for his taste. Seems as if he's into your basic CCM pop/rock so I'd have to rethink. hmmm.....

PFR is a good band as far as CCM pop/rock bands come (you can hear influences of Jellyfish, Crowded House, Kings X and Beatles but their last record sounded more like Lifehouse)

Seven Day Jesus had a decent self titled that came out in 1997.

All Star United's first CD was a decent slice of power pop with satirical lyrics.....

Just hand him this and walk away quietly:

Possibly since they've sucked since Greg Volz left.

Petra just released a CD called Farewell. Yeah, they're finished. They should have quit a long time ago, if for no other reason than the fact that they were stealing awards right from under more worthy artists for the duration of the 90s cause they seemed to be the default "rock award" band. They have as much talent as any other hair metal band really. But there's just not a whole lot to 'em.
