Yeah, I kind of figured it would be but I was curious about some first hand thoughts. At 320+ min of concert footage how could it not be amazing?

Have you ever heard live Zeppelin? What's most amazing about it is how different the songs sound, and how amazing the music sounds for it being only four people making it.

I would dispute that only four people were making it. Just sayin.

I've actually never heard live Zep outside a few clips here and there. I'm a fairly big fan (listening to it all morning probably spurned this question) and figured it was time to take some more in.

remember the scene in Almost Famous where they a show a guy backstage playing guitar? I think shit like that went on. It doesnt take away from them; I just have my doubts about some things.

Yeah, that's basically it. A lot of these songs are probably different entities played live. I've been listening to the studio stuff for as long as I can remember and figured it was time to discover some new notes. I'm looking into this asap, thanks SK.

its subtle. its when...shit, the band in the movie......is playing live and they cut to a brief scene of a guy like playing along backstage, i think on a Les Paul.

I mean, i didnt first hear of this kind of thing from the movie, I think that it has gone on forever.....its basically the equivalent of finding out that Rock musician or band X didnt actually play on something. (the Kinks come to mind immediately)

I'm going to second this one...or heck 10th or 11th the sentiments above. It's required viewing. I know you really dug Last Waltz so I think you'll enjoy this, but this, is so much more aw-inspiring because for me personally, I had never seen so much good LZ footage properly edited and cleaned up. The package is the ace mang. Also, if you haven't previously, pick up 'How The West Was Won'.

the only thing i don't like is that sometimes the footage and sound don't match up so it's like watching a video.

but when it's all strait footage it's amazing.

how is the audio CD that came out around the same time?

I really enjoyed it. I think its quality. They didn't half-ass it, I remember it was on my top 25 of the year, and it was a steady companion piece in my car for a few months. Where it needs to be powerful, it blows the speakers right out (figuratively), and when its technical, the sound is great.

On the DVD--either Page or Plant at the time said that is all there is. Hence, the length of the DVD. Kind of unsettling but I guess the high-impact documentation style didn't start until maybe the 80s when bands started documenting everything.

Excellent. It fills my Zep-needs when they strike now. The cool thing about it is that the CDs are not made of material from the DVD. In fact, chronologically, I think the three CDs fit right in between disc 1 and 2 of the DVD set. If you rip those DVDs for music, you basically have 7 CDs of live Zeppelin.
