We out worked Portugal, and for the most part, S. Korea on their turf. Definitely out worked Mexico. Most every article on the USA's run listed superior conditioning as the #1 reason they advanced so far... and the #1 reason the rest of the world hates to watch our games.

Don't believe all you read.

I mean come on this is these guys job.

The team with the best players win.

The team with the best team wins. Otherwise the Yankees would have won 124 world series by now. You have to function as a squad.

I love to watch the USA.

Probably a year ago i had heated argument with friends. They were pissed that England were so poor and i argued that people expect too much. We are just a tiny fucking island. I said that USA in 15 years would be the best team in the world. They laughed in my face. Okay the ground roots its not that popular, but still how many people in the US.

I mean if these WERE the best players on paper and had NOT underperformed then they would win?

With that logic, China should win everything every year.

Konstantin's Guide To The World Cup Groups

Group A - Germany and Poland should cruise through this group. Odd that the host nation should get such an easy group....

Group B - Obviously being Scottish I'll be loudly cheering on every team they play against but I'd expect 'them' to see off Paraguay and T&T easily. Sweden always beat England though so it might be in 2nd place.

Group C - One of the hardest groups. You'd expect Argentina and Holland to squeeze through but Ivory Coast and Serbia will be no push overs.

Group D - Interesting group. Portugal and Mexico will be favourites but Iran have produced some good players in the last 10 years or so and have dominated the Asian qualifiers for a long time. I'd write Angola off.

Group E - Tough one for the US. American soccer has come a long way in the last 10 years but I think finishing bottom of this group is a real possiblity. The Czechs are the strongest side in the group, Italy aren't the force they have been and are beatable but they have a bit more quality than the US have. Ghana has always produced excellent players and have won a few youth titles but this is there first senior finals so it will be interesting to see how they get on. I think they might be the 'surprise' team of this championship though.

Group F - Brazil are favourites for the trophy and will get through. Japan seem the weakest of the others and I'll take Australia to edge out Croatia.

Group G - One of the weaker groups in my opinion. France have been awful lately and scrapped into the Finals. Switzerland are no great shakes. South Korea might even win this group if they continue where they left off in the last world cup.

Group H - You can see Fernando Torres and Andrei Shevchenko banging in a few goals against Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

KNOCKOUT STAGE SIDES

Germany, Poland, England, Sweden, Argentina, Holland, Mexico, Portugal, Czech Republic, Ghana, Brazil, Australia, South Korea, France, Spain, Ukraine.

heres the full draw:

A
Germany, Ecuador, Poland, Costa Rica

B
England, Paraguay, Sweden, Trinidad & Tobago

C
Argentina, Holland, Serbia & Montenegro, Ivory Coast

D
Mexico, Angola, Portugal, Iran

E
Italy, Ghana, Czech Republic, USA

F
Brazil, Australia, Croatia, Japan

G
France, Togo, Switzerland, South Korea

H
Spain, Tunisia, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia

im quite surpirsed to see some of the countries there, but i tuned out of all the qualifying after canada got knocked out, so pretty much from the start. from my rudimentary knowledge of recent qualifying, i would assume that group c is the toughest, although if theres one thing virginia tech and holland have in common, its choking when it counts. other than that, paraguay in group b is usually good enough to cause the bigger teams problems, as well as poland in group a and south korea in group g.

Last year in Euro 2004 i was working as a rep in Greece and i had to sell the England vs France game to people on a flight form Glasgow!

Dead funny, i started off with "Who wants to see england lose tonight, drink all you want for 10 euros"

I got loads! ( love the booze)

Go England. If Italy continues their poor play the US could squeeze through but i definitely wouldn't place a bet on the US making it.
