Down here on the island. I'm not a big fan, but they're claiming Sir Elton may drop in for a hand job or somethng from the gang.

I thought they were fun but didn't care for the first album overall, not much replay value to me.

RIYL: I'd put them in the same camp as The Darkenss but a little more on the disco side of things.

It's not usually my cup o' tea, but I thought it was pretty fun too. I thought their cover of Comfortably Numb was pretty hilarious.

Exactly. You can't take them too seriously. If you simply sit back and have fun, you'll enjoy them. They're not as "important" as The Strokes or Franz Ferdinand or whomever...

They're just a lot of fun.

Yep, perfectly said.

I concur with the above..... they're just a fun band that is all about dancing. I wouldn't put too much stock or worth into their shelf-life value.

my father in law is not a hipster by any stretch, and pretty much only listens to electric blues and george thorogood, and he has this song on his "driving mix".

Once I started skipping Comfortably Numb, I found the disk a lot more tolerable.

You know what? My husband is a huge PF fan, and he's of the mindset that if you're going to do a cover, either do it EXACTLY the way it was done before (see Bauhaus' "Ziggy Stardust" cover), or do it completely differently so that it sounds nothing like the original. I think SS achieved the latter. He actually thought it was interesting, but not his cup o' tea. It doesn't change the fact that I don't care for their version of the song in general, but the rest of the album is great.

But with a dude singing in falsetto. Exclusively in falsetto.

I disagree with you guys. Don't think they're a gimmick band. And think they are pretty important. "Tits on the Radio" is a damn good song and I think the album, although bad in places, was respectable. Wouldn't be surprised if the next album is about as good.

American radio should have picked up on this band and played them 24/7.

Yeah, I agree that they completely rearranged the song -- doesn't mean I have to like it.

Other covers that were completely different, yet didn't suck:

Oingo Boingo - You Really Got Me
Van Halen - You Really Got Me
Cure - Purple Haze (the version on the tribute album)
Type O Negative - Summer Breeze, Paranoid, Cinnamon Girl
Tori Amos - anything

I've been spinning the Nouvelle Vague covers of New Order and PIL in the dining room, I'm digging it. I have to agree, though; I think the song should be vastly different from the original.

I've always imagined that some Depeche Mode songs are just begging to be country ditties.

Plutonic? Meaning of or related to the planet Pluto or the Disney-created animation character of the same name? Or did you mean platonic, which is an oft-abused term incorrectly intended as "sexless love", when in reality it is much more than that.

I love that Nouvelle Vague album. Went up to PA to see them play.

There's been an acoustic version or two of dm songs -- Love, In Itself comes to mind, I think also Personal Jesus. That's how Martin writes them.
