Oh yeah man. I picked up his Live At Stubbs album on the cover alone, and it totally blew me away. Great reggae, and the spin he takes by spitting jewish scripture is just plain great. Good music and learning yay!

It seems that he steadily gets a mention every month or so.

The music is mediocre as far as reggae goes.

Havn't the Beastie Boys - and pretty much every other white MC, from before the early or mid nineties (I recall that they were almost universally Jewy) - set the bar any higher?

reggae/hip hop...ehhhh. I would say Matisyahu's lyrics are a bit deeper as well.

Not exactly recent, as in the last decade, but Steel Pulse is really good reggae.

I really enjoy Steel Pulse, plus there is a really interesting story behind their fomation as well as some funny anecdotes about their brief interactions with Bob Marley when on tour with him.

For instance, Marley says, "what's your name again?" the response: "Steel Pulse". Marley says, "what the hell kind of band name is that?"

Also, you could try getting Damien Marley's album. I listened to it and I would say that half of it is pretty decent. The other half has that crappy reggaeton influence and then there is also the enlisting of digital pitch changing--i don't know what the technical term is--but in my opinion it sounds uber-lame.
