So, a few weeks back I decided to list a batch of about 40 used CD's that I had in my collection that I no longer wanted. The results were surprisingly good. The only negatives were the consistent emailings, tracking, and then packaging/shipping I had to do. Out of the 35 buys I had only 2 asshats that refused to answer their e-mails or pay for the items they won. Fortunately I didn't send anything off until I received a money order, cashier's check, or (preferably) a PayPal payment.

I ended up netting $170 bucks for stuff I didn't want or had duplicates of on CD. On each sale I got at least twice what I had originally paid for and for a few items I got 10-20X my purchase price even after taking into account the eBay, PayPal, and shipping fees.

Some highlights were:

South Park PlayStation 1/2 game ------>$38
Duran Duran - Medazzaland -------->$21
Michael Hutchence - s/t -------->$20
Circus Of Power - Vices ---> $15

I figure that I can do this every so often to help offset my regular CD shopping sprees.

Anyone else have good luck selling music online?

Yep - with any new purchases I make these days, I burn two copies (one for work and one for home) and sell the original on eBay. I can usually get my purchase price or close to it in most auctions, so CDs end up costing me about $2 at most in the end.

I don't care about packaging or liner notes, so I wish I had started doing this a long time ago.

I don't know what it is but I have to have the original CD. Maybe not so much for the liner notes but for the artwork maybe?

Plus, It'd seriously take way too much time for me to convert every CD I bought to mp3, copy the inserts, then burn them onto a disc, then delete them off my HD, etc. etc.

It's people like you that's causing the ruination of the recording industry. Those poor recording execs will have to drive their own Benzes to work now.

Why would you have to convert them to MP3 and therefore lose quality in the process? I just do a straight-up copy, so it's as good as it gets.

...but you care about the packaging, so I guess it doesn't matter.

I've been making it a habit of buying 2 used cd's off Amazon every time I get paid so I can keep up with stuff.

Unless you're using EAC, it's not a bit-perfect copy.

This is how I do my BMG subscriptions. I buy all 12 CD's at once, usually for $55 or so, and then list them all on ebay or half.com. Usually end up making some $$$ after all is said and done.

Do people really read liner notes more than one time?

I am using EAC.
