I had to go with Led Zeppelin II. Abbey Road is great as are Tommy, Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, and VU but I've probably listened to the Brown Bomber the most of any of them.

what of you think of II vs. I? I think II is way better personally....I can't get enough of songs like "What Is..." and "Thank You"

I think that LedZep 1 was actually technically released in '68 BTW. I have no way of proving this though.......

II was the album that got me into Zeppelin. It was a Roadhouse staple for years, and one day I went out and bought it. Then Bloor chided me cos he's been a Zep fan since birth ;)

i'm abstaining. either don't know enough about these or don't like 'em enough to vote. i'd vote "space oddity" by bowie, but it's a fairly weak album for bowie imo, so it doesn't feel right to vote that in "other".

the overwhelming suckage factor in regards to the lyrics and the general ripping off of songs without giving credit where credit is due.

Sums it up for me - although I'm not a fan of their music. Their heavy stuff is too plodding and their hippy mystic acoustic stuff is trite. And I lurve the fact that Led Zep thought "D'yer Maker" was reggae.

Yeah it is an amazing year. I forgot to include Tommy and The Band on my list of also rans. I think the only reason VU won over the Stones was the inclusion of Country Honk. It's the Rainy Day Woman #12 and 35 of the album. Not huge enough to hurt the album, but it is a slight blemish.

Wow. that's pretty tough, but sorta true. I feel the same way about "Lay Lady Lay" from Nashville Skyline. I gotta mention though that "Tonight Ill Be Staying Here With You" is such a great fucking song.

I dunno about all this. I still ove it, though it came out much better as Honky Tonk Women. Dunno, I think its interesting it was included on there, and i know that everyone hates Mick's "exagerrated" vox, but it's not a blemish at all, I don't think

Yeah, I getcha....I mean, just being able to do something like that, that basically sounds like a demo, and include it on what was a REALLY important album (if you've read the Stanley Booth book, you'll know what I mean by this) for the Stones at that point, its just crazy.

Plus, you can also look at "Country Honk" as a tribute to Gram since he was exerting considerable influence (both musically and with that candy he was getting from a Negro[sic] dentist out in Watts) on the Twins at that point.

Let me clarify this a bit; Perhaps the comparison to Rainy Day was a bit harsh because I fucking HATE that song relative to the rest of Blonde on Blonde which is nearly perfect. I don't hate Country Honk, but feel it pales compared to the other songs and Honky Tonk Women. Whenever I listen to Let it Bleed and Country Honk comes on I never skip it, but secretly wish the other version was on in its place. So maybe it's not a blemish, per se, but it removes an otherwise perfect rating for me, from a 10.0 to a 9.835.

<--Am putting on Let it Bleed for the walk to car and shopping in the mall.

I thought the same thing while walking to the car. I've heard the song a billion fucking times but I still get shivers when Mary Clayton is singing 'Rape, murder...it's just a shot away...' It's just frightening stuff.

Great opener. Rocks Off is better though.
