Please send me a replacement remote control for my 10-year-old Onkyo receiver, cuz my dogs ate the old one, and now I can't adjust the center or real channels' volume levels.

I found them at 2 places, like this:
http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&smodel=TXSV424&brand_pn=ONKYO_TXSV424&mode=large&uid=1134524373850

...but they're like $92 and $126, which I feel to be a load of horse shit. And before you get all smart, santa, and say "why don't you just get a universal remote?" remember that those things don't do what I need, which is channel level adjustment. Meanwhile, my home theater experience is less than perfect. I don't know how you can sleep at night knowing that.

You can't do it from the front panel? You can on my old Sony.

Nope, sadly. Surround more and center mode, but not the levels. They only put that on the remote. That, and a smallish nugget of gold, apparently.

The same thing happened to me. I bought a new receiver pretty much because of it.

...naw. Something tells me they don't keep a stash of ten year old remotes around. But shit I should. Otherwise, I'm just gonna have to live with a loud center channel.

This isn't any help, but what pisses me off about my Onkyo is that the mute is only on the remote. I can't tell you how many times I've needed it to be on the receiver as well.

Did you try eBay for the remote?

Also, I wonder if you could run a pot between the speaker & the receiver- maybe Radio Shack would have some ideas. You wouldn't be able to control it with the remote, but...

That's an excellent pre-marriage solution.

Busty has one, but his is too new... I checked it out a few hours ago.

Yup. Three onkyo remotes, none the right animal. Found two stores w/ websites, but cristallmighty they want a nut for one.

With a powered speaker line, a simple 250k bleed-off pot wouldn't cut it. They make wall-mount reistats, and those would work, but that's getting pretty damn ghetto.

What about the pot(entiometer) idea?

Orrr, you could have every Obnerite send you $2. Then you could buy a new one.

Edit: Oh. Well, you don't have to wall mount it, just drop it behind the stereo.

Dear Virgina, I mean Squirrgle,

If you would feed those poor doggies they wouldn't eat the remotes.
Did you check the St. Vinnies down the street? Last time I was there, I thought I saw a few orphan remotes.

Love,
Santagurt

Does Craigslist extend all the way down to tedium like used remotes? If so, impressive.

Those too. He had an onkyo a lot like mine, similar age, but gave it to his dad, and the remote was eaten long ago anyway.

my parents' parrot eats the buttons off the remotes, and i just found out that all my friends think that ripping off the "2" button is just something that i do as a nervous habit.

I posted a tv on there once. 25" samsung, decent shape, no issues, $75, and got about 6 cheapskates who wanted to pay 4 cents for it, and 45 Nigerian Money Transfer solicitations.

But if it works, it beats the Shit outta $95.

My receiver is almost useless right now because the volume knob doesn't work and the remote doesn't either and when it broke the volume was all the way up. It's okay for now because I'm running it through my mixer but I want to get a new receiver eventually.
