this is the first year that my wife and i haven't made plans yet. looks like it'll be dinner and a shindag downtown, spilling back way too much wine.

what will all of you be up to? romantic dinner? party at a friends house? masturbating at home alone with some coke and cheap vodka?

VANCOUVER! I vowed to myself to never spend NYE in LA anymore. I know we'll be clubbing, but I'm not sure where yet-- it depends on the folks we're staying with and where they're going.

Regardless I'll be drunk.

Some combination of the last two, probably... without the coke and vodka. I don't like vodka.

We still have no clue.

Maybe we'll get invited to a party. Or maybe we'll just sit home and stare at the tv bored. I dunno.

There are nebulous plans to assemble several friends returning to Mich. for the holidays and visit some comrades in Chicago. No idea what we'd do once there, but we never have trouble finding, er, trouble.

If that falls through, head to the pub downtown, close it down and proceed to the going-away party of our favorite bartender, who's moving to Portland, Ore. in January.

Friends of mine rented out AIKO in Atlanta to throw a big bash. 250 peeps have committed so far. It's gonna get durrrrrrrrty. $90 all you can eat/drink. Not bad. Last year a friend of mine wore a tuxedo with pants that had the entire back torn out. KARA-ZY.
Hung with the same group last NYE and got laid last year post-party. Woo Hoo!

I never got the big deal out of New Years.

it depresses me actually....

i dont like the big crazy parties, cause people act like idiots and make it a bigger deal then it really is...

most likely, i'll head out to long island and hang out with my friend and her daughter.....

I'm not the only one then. I plan to adopt the fetal position on the floor for the duration. Certainly in the dark and possibly with my Creative Zen on.

Friend is getting married. I'm in the wedding (along w/Bloor and some other good friends) Should be OK, despite the fact that its a wedding on NYE. Definitely coke and cheap vodka as well. Good way to start of this year as I do every new year: still awake and totally trying to convince myself that THIS year's gonna be different.

I think we are getting a cabin in the mountains...hot springs, cold beer, greens, and hopefully not a whole lot of civilization

I'll be going to a party at my friend Tony's condo. I will never, ever go to a bar on NYE.

One of the most surprisingly boring places to be on NYE: on a beach on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Probably have lobster dinner with the fam and friends, drink heaps and hope fun finds us before 2am, when I give up.

chicagoans without plans who don't mind clubs on NYE should consider coming and dancing at my show at Sub-T.

So i'll be working, but i'll be making rent money. Yay, rent money.

Cannot say with any certainty -- I'll certainly be requesting the Eve of the New Year off, at my second job, and then taking in the posh east-side night-life. Maybe with a girl, or woman, maybe not.

And, as benefit, if the not side: I seem to have the ability, when I keep my mouth shut, to make the broads turn to putty. One example: my first night out in an age, I take in an half a pizza (half-margherita, half-anchovy) and two glasses of chardonnay at PizzaMan, fair enough, then walk to Lava (site of the former Globe, crap venue that it was). At Lava, I take up stead on a stool midway down the bar, and against a pillar, and survey the scene; bop my head to "Thriller" and "I Believe in a Thing Called Love". And, I wait for the bar-keep to get me my blasted martini. As well, I encounter a woman turning twenty-one, with her baby-daddy, Irish immigrant pre-law coed friend, and three others (two male, one female), and chat with the first and third (ex-twenty-years-old and pre-law coed). In the course of it, they share a cigarette -- not reefer, unless joints are coming with filters now -- and seeing this, I command, "Now, you have to kiss."

And, they did it. It was a simple pressing of pursed lips together, for a second (if that), but still... When did I acquire the power?

Then, I talked -- bullshat, really -- about the Gaelic Tiger with the Irish girl college student. A good fifteen, twenty minutes of discussion. And, last, I got her number... And never mind she has a boyfriend -- though I wouldn't mind making this into just a friendship, I want to go in for the kill and "steal" her away from her man. Besides, physically at least, I am better'n him -- he makes me look like Tayshaun Prince to his Oliver Miller.
