I keep listening to that opening blast of fun from the last Brainiac EP, the one tweaked by Jim O'Rourke. The one that starts with "Fresh New Eyes". Very cool and dark, with a nice snarky bass and some quirky electronics, kind of like Trent Reznor meets Girls Against Boys ...

there's a cover girl on a stake-out
she's a worm on a hook, she's bait
in the trunk of a Plymouth in Memphis
she thinks she's made a mistake

go on an gimme some fresh new eyes
dress my tongue in a new disguise
go on an gimme a sexy mouth to taste it

Ike Reilly, Marah.

Christ, that's pretty much always.

Centro-Matic has been getting daily two-plays for the past week, though.

Power pop with fuzzed-out guitar solos, horns, keyboards, clever, geeky lyrics, tons of energy, and hooks to spare.

More than any one band, I've been enjoying the hell out of revisiting my favorites from the years from SK's daily polls. I can get overly focused on digesting recent purchases to the neglect of old favorites and its been great to break out of that trap.

np: BT Express "Do It 'Til You're Satisfied"

The Church. Lost track of 'em in the 90s after Sometime Anywhere and recently re-found them via Emusic. I downloaded After Everything Now This and fell in love, then grabbed all the other albums they had. Now I've got all four of the recent two-disc remasters on my Christmas list, and if Santa doesn't deliver these expensive goodies, I'm going to drop a loaf of dung down his gullet next time I see him. I need more Church.

I have recently bombarded myself with music and with the end of the year coming, I've been trying to give everything an equal shot, so right now I'm just trying to get my year end mix right.

Oh yea, I've had a serious affair with the Black Heart Procession lately, and my latest affliction is the In The Fishtank thing they did with Solbakken. Cool stuff. Pretty much a BHP project, and with a sound not too different from some of the things on Amore del Tropico like "Why I Stay", but there's a few things that are definitely different, like a Swiss woman named Rachael trading verses with Pall on the opener. Shades of Pink Floyd at times. Hard to resist for me ;)
