Ok, who saw the SpongeBob movie?

My currently-ex/possibly-future girlfriend* said it was bullshit.

I thought it was fuckn incredible. Totally absurd and insane. There's no real "jokes" in it. At all. You spend 90 minutes laughing at the creative ways people draw things. It's nuts!

*Yes, my life is a wreck!

Hey Whiney!
Haven't seen it yet, but I plan on taking the kids sometime.

I have very little exposure to spongebob. For me it'll probably be a renter, and then i'll give you a verdict.

I was in between, but I went for "bullshit" because I was disappointed. I love Spongebob, but this was a 15-minute cartoon drawn over an hour and a half. It gets way better at the end, but I'd say for a good 40 minutes during the middle I only laughed twice, and once I forced it.

Wow. My thoughts exactly.

I was super disappointed by it, and found it mostly funny and interesting towards the end. Rest of the time I kept squirming in my seat looking at my watch.

And I was always a fan. They totally dropped the ball on this. SB is great as a half hour cartoon(meaning two episodes not one). But a movie, meh. Not enough funny to fill that amount of time.

It was okay, not horrendous, and certainly not as bad as Polar Express. My kid had a blast, so it was money well spent. They didn't do anything they couldn't've done on TV, and the TV show often times has more effective humor.

Man, I thought it totally held over 90 minutes. It was like watching 6 15-minute episodes in a row... which i could TOTALLY do.

Also, Mindy the mermaid was fucking HOT. She's totally a creamdream invented in the mind of a sexually frustrated animator. She's got an indie-rock grrl bob haircut, indie-rock grrl hornrims... She's got a pudgy face (which is a signifier for "a little misunderstood") and a tiny waist and big boobs (which is a signifier for "animators are perverts who have unrealistic expectations). Plus she wears a Lance Armstrong bracelet!!!

Someone who knows how to use this fucking message board, please post a picture of Mindy for everyone.

Also, what was up with that trench scene which was a direct rip-off of the Ren And Stimpy "Space Madness" episode...

We went to see "The Incredibles" instead on my trip with the kids, though the wife has since taken them to see SpongeBob. Her comments leaned toward the BS side of things. "The Incredibles" was. Not BS, but pretty incredible.

I'm perhaps the only one on Obner who thought The Polar Express was great?

Visually incredible, storyline a bit weak, but a remarkable technical achievement and done with a lot of love.

And, yeah The Spongebob movie is very good. Not half as inspired as the show, but worth seeing.

Speaking of animated films, is the Incredibles okay to take a 5 year old to?

No, I definitely enjoyed it, especially since my autistic son's two absolute favorite things in the whole world are trains and Santa. Even if it would have sucked, I would still give it thumbs-up for how much joy it gave my son. But it didn't suck, so that's one integrity compromise I won't have to make. I hear the 3-D IMAX version is mind-blowing, but I don't think my son would be willing to keep on the glasses.

Yes. I asked the same question a while back and then took mine. Some mild violence and a couple scenes only adults will likely get, but it's a good one for kids.

Nearly half of the box office has come from IMAX. That's a lot.
