Waitaminute...doesn't that just mean it's New Order? Ok, I'm being nit picky. I'll still be interested in seeing this film.

Quote:
Joy Division to record new material

The legends reveal all to NME.COM
New Order are working on new material for the long-awaited biopic of former Joy Division singer Ian Curtis.

Director and celebrated rock photographer Anton Corbijn - most renowned for his work with U2 - has asked the legendary Manchester four-piece to contribute songs to the film 'Control'.

The biopic, which is based on a book by Ian's widow Deborah, had been planned for a number of years, but the late singer's family were never happy with the proposals until earlier this year.

Bassist Peter Hook told NME: "We were asked to do the soundtrack to the film which I thought was a fucking great idea, for Joy Division to do the music for a Joy Division film because we've never really done a soundtrack before. The soundtrack could include new stuff. Basically Anton wants to use certain songs by Joy Division so that each song becomes a video. Like the way the 'Atmosphere' video was filmed, he wants to write videos that appear in the film.

"Every time we get accolades for Joy Division it makes [Ian's suicide] sadder, especially with the film. Working on the film has made the whole thing seem more poignant."

It is 25 years since Curtis was found hanging in his home. As a mark of respect to their former singer, New Order have been throwing in Joy Division songs during most of their sets throughout 2005. This culminated in the band playing a set almost entirely made up of Joy Division songs last month, as a tribute to the former Radio 1 DJ John Peel.

Hooky said the band are considering playing all-Joy Division sets at some stage in the future. He added: "We have actually talked about doing Joy Division sets and gigs but we haven't actually found our footing yet. We did the festivals and had a bit of time off but because we've played two gigs recently and had the whole UK Hall Of Fame thing we haven't really decided what we're gonna do next. If we deem it to be enjoyable then we'll do it."

Casting for 'Control' is set to begin next spring and the production team are looking for a big screen actor to play the part of Curtis.

This upsets me for some reason. Probably because I love each as a seperate entity and for each band stood for. This cross-pollination of the two smells of something hoaky, although I have more respect for NO than to actually think that. I'd be upset if I went to a NO show and they played JD songs...what is there, is there. Only plastic versions of the songs remain in my mind.

They all should have died with their lead singers. Bastardizations in any other form.

absolutly.
if you guys want to get together and play or whatever, fine. Have fun. But don't call it the same band. Even a little tweak like The Dead or Heads. Both those bands did material sans their leader without pissing on the ashes of their old band.

unless they're raising ian curtis from the dead, then no. seriously. what the fuck?! i like new order and joy division for 2 separate entities... i had mixed feelings when new order played jd songs at coachella. it seems that new order is banking off ian's death and i don't like that at all.

hmpttt.

Technically, it's not Joy Division -- I think that headline is just meant as an attention-grabber.

So let me get this straight -- they're not doing it for the money? Well alrighty then.

It should read 75% of Joy Division to record new material  . Probably some editor fucked with the headline, because the copy clearly states that New Order is recording material for the movie. Since the band vowed that Joy Division would cease to exist if any members left, recording under that name would be like pissing on Ian's grave. I doubt any members of New Order have an inclination to do that.

I kind of like that New Order has been integrating Joy Division songs into their sets. Call me cynical, but how else are those stupid kids out there going to hear great tunes like that? Better New Order doing Joy Division than, say, H.I.M. (or even Nine Inch Nails, for that matter - Trent's version of "Dead Souls" is flaccid).

I liked the NIN "Dead Souls" cover. But then again, I heard NIN's version before I heard Joy D's. Did H.I.M. cover "Dead Souls" too? I keep seeing that guy everywhere but I have no idea what he sounds like. Doesn't seem like somebody I'd be interested in.

To my knowledge they haven't covered it, but if they did I'm sure it would be horrible. Their cover of Chris Isaac's "Wicked Game" is retch-worthy. H.I.M. isn't worth being interested in, unless you're an angsty 12-year-old girl who wears black velvet all the time and writes bad poetry about how miserable her life is because she has a nine o' clock curfew.

I'll put it this way: yes Virginia, there are bands more miserably cliched than the Cruxshadows.

Seems like some of you are being rather harsh! (And I'm calling you out! ) Go back and listen to the pre-"Blue Monday"/PC&L New Order - they still sounded a lot like JD. So when a member of a band goes and offs himself, well that's pretty fucking selfish, dontcha think? Why shouldn't NO play JD songs if they want to? I wouldn't consider it "cheap" or "for the money." Me, I'm saying "yay." (I don't mean this to be disrespectful to IC, tho it may sound so. But generally, people that kill themselves really piss me off.)

And some of you may disagree, but a good set of covers is "A Means To An End," a tribute-type disc that came out in the mid-'90s.

Hey now, I'm male and a lot older than 12, and I like H.I.M. Lpppt!

Another way of describing H.I.M. -- hard rock with a goth twist -- think Evanescence meets Bon Jovi. (I know, I hate Evanescence, too, but...it's the only thing I could think of.)
