So, I saw it last night....

It was real good....Very close to the 1933 version, although an hour twenty longer.

Jack Black played a toned down version of himself. Still comedic and some of his mannerisms and speech were defininitely too modern for when the movie was to have taken place.

3 hours is way too long, although it did hold my interest. The first 70 minutes of build up didnt really have a payoff and can almost be looked at as unnneccesary in the grand scheme of the flick.

I give it a thumbs up, but don't see me having the urge to see it again anytime soon.

Is it necessary to have a spoiler alert before a post about a remake of King Kong? Is there someone out there clinging to the hope that this time the ape and Naomi Watts will end up in matrimonial bliss?

Saw it last night as well. Agreed. It felt Loooong, but was also exciting... an odd mixture. I like the fact that he doesn't load films up with known stars, because it always makes it easier for me to live within the film, as it were.

Busty fell asleep for a bit.

I had just eaten, I was high, and I never stay up that late (10:00pm) in a dark room anymore.

Having said that, I really liked the movie.

I read Loooong as Looooog, and thought, for a moment, that the Senator had been cast in the title role.

Probably 15 of the 30 chuckles I had to myself centered on drawing parallels betwixt them.

Well, then, get all thirty chuckles by getting the bastard up here.

In fact, smear some frozen butter on a UW soph coed and you can get Bloor and the Senator here, simultaneously.

you'd think i'd be all over this movie, what with the apes and all. How come some great director didn't do that Godzilla crapfest?

Dude, both are impossible to ignore, are of considerable stature, are almost impervious to bullets, are wanted by the law, have climbed the outside of major buildings, and both have a taste for them skinny white women.

I love how a couple of media outlets (drudgereport among others) is already calling Kong a bomb because it didn't break 10mil its first day out. According to this chart: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/days/?page=wed&p=.htm it opened #21 all-time. Also notice where RoTJ, and other box office blockbusters opened. Also note that Titantic isn't even on that list and it is the #1 grossing film of all time. To me this is just a gross misuse of a news operation. Terrible.
