Seems like a decent list but I'm at a loss for how Death Cab made the top 20.

I'm baffled by Mariah Carey and Animal Collective being in the same list.

I know this is a retail site and all, but I get really tired of the gratuitous hyperbole heaped on records that have no business getting such plaudits.
"Get Behind Me Satan" is the White Stripes' "finest record"? Gimme a break.

Can't an editor once in a while say something like, yeah, this isn't Earth-shattering or anything, but it's pretty damn good and beats most of what came out this year.

It wouldn't be exciting, but it'd be refreshing.

It's not far off the mark at least. I don't think it's hyperbole at all.

That's a debatable point, but you catch my drift re: the empty praise they heap on too many of those records and how they're all the greatest thing ever recorded.

It's like James Lipton started writing record reviews.

You and Busty's incessant Death Cab love has me wondering "am I missing something?"

Please explain, bro.

Love for the death cab is only gained by putting it in reverse.

I got to #13 before I found one I owned (although Fiona Apple is on my wishlist, and I'd like to hear Bloc Party).

It's okay to expect those things, but not from a site that's trying to encourage sales.

Yeah, start with Transatlanticism. If it doesn't resonate at some level, the rest of it probably isn't worth your time.

Cool to see some pop/world/country/jazz releases that we don't talk about.

I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way, but this is the first Death Cab album that I really like.

I love Transatlanticism, but the new one just didn't do it for me. It seems like they played it safe, maybe even regressed, instead of expanding on the ideas that I enjoyed on their previous record.

To be fair, I only heard the new album once, so I'll give it at least another shot.

It's my favorite followed by Transatlanticism.

transatlanticism and Plans really aren't all that much different. its Death Cab. It's not like they went to a bossanova style or something.

I don't really get the love for "Transatlanticism" either. I don't even dislike Death Cab but I find Transatlanticism and Plans to be very boring as a whole. I really liked We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes and which they'd keep putting out albums like that one.

should i rename this thread to "amazon editors' inclusion of death cab in the best of 2005"?

I like amazon's sly protest:

Yeah...that's called "The Postal Service"...

DCfC haven't changed all that much since "The Photo Album" (and, in the grand scheme of things, not that much overall)...

why can't we just talk about hating Suft Jean, like the good ol' days...
