I saw this last night as was totally floored. Loved every minute. I saw the TV shows a while back and remember really liking those. But damn. This movie was everything the new Star Wars should have been. Fun, sad, campy, unrelenting (people definately die, get shot and stabbed), and full of good characters.

The lead character, Mal, is the Hans Solo that is so sorely lacking in sci-fi movies these days.

i'm pretty new here, so this may have been discussed before.

I liked this movie, too.

Firefly was a pretty good show, but the movie was much better.

Weird. I just saw an ad for the DVD on my tee-vee. Didn't even know it was coming out next week! it's barely been out of the theaters (3 months).

The movie was good but the series was better. The deaths really bummed me out. Tough I should've see it coming as it is Joss Whedon's favorite thing to do. Killing lead characters just for shock value.

I'm looking forward to the extras. Joss always packs them in.

I just started netflixing the show. Carlos Jacott alone can get me to like it, but so far it's been a really well-rounded funny show. I'll check the movie when I'm done with it.

Yeah, I have to agree with JP Crack here, while mildly entertaining as a crappy sci-fi, all this movie is is a crappy sci-fi.

I try not to mix them, but I can get by with either.

"you got cowboy in my sci-fi!"

"you got sci-fi in my cowboy!"

"fuck you both!"

At least the movie doesn't have the theme song from the shows.

And I don't see how anyone who didn't watch at least most of the TV series could really enjoy the movie. I also don't why anyone who really didn't like the series would bother watching the movie in the first place.

For what it's worth, I didn't think the TV show was any good until halfway through the season. Some of the episodes towards the end were pretty great.

I never saw an episode from the series, but I still enjoyed Serenity. I mean, I saw Star Trek: First Contact back in 1996 without ever seeing an episode of Star Trek, but the writers wrote the movie in such a way that those who were unfamiliar with the characters could jump right in. The same is true with Serenity.

Rumor has it there's preproduction on the next Star Trek movie which would feature Shatner, Stewart and Bakula all in that multiverse rift place.

I never got around to seeing this when it was in theatres. One of my roommates was a little obsessed with it.

the trailers really are bad. For that reason I avoided seeing the movie.
Not exactly sure how they were trying to market this thing...but if you make a very entertaining movie look retarded, people probably will not go to see it.

lesson learned.

But this was one of the better sci-fi/space movies I have seen. enough said.

But the world needs a gay space western. Think of it...
