The Rolling Stones will be playing Nebraska for what I have heard is the first time in at least twenty years. They are playing at the Qwest Center, where U2 is playing tonight with Kanye West. I was excited about having the Stones play, even though I could not afford tickets, but their opening act for this show is Brooks and Dunn according to Pollstar. I'd be pissed if I was a hardcore Stones fan looking for a rock show. I'm just glad it wasn't Beck again like the stadium tour this summer, then I would have been pissed for missing out.

Not a fan of Brooks and Dunn but honestly: what the fuck have those guys ever done wrong? (the occasional "missing" person aside)

btw, we got Wilco as an opening act for the Stones in Atlanta and I watched about 73 seconds.

I'm not dissing Brooks and Dunn. If we were to get some one of their caliber to play at Pershing Center in Lincoln, we'd be lucky and I wouldn't be pissed to work the show like I was the Big & Rich/ Gretchen Wilson show this weekend.
I'm just saying I am disappointed to see that we get stuck with a big time pop country act opening for the Stones in Nebraska, when they could have exposed the audience here to an act that hasn't played here often or ever before.
Though I probably would have been pissed to see Kanye West opening for U2 tonight if I had bought tickets rather than someone like The Arcade Fire who opened for Bono & Co. in Canada.

sorry dude, forgot you worked at an arena

Big and Rich/Gretchen Wilson could be kinda fun, though. I actually really dig the Save A Horse song and Gretch might be up for some weird shit----could be a wild night on the plains, man.

Here's a weird take on this...

Rock is mostly dead (like God). It remains alive in dinosaurs,... and weird eddies in the backwater of country music where scruffy longhairs bang on their telecasters in a cargo cult of riffing.

It's not that weird a pairing, especially for the Heartland.

I'm not arguing with you, or that it makes financial sense. I'm just glad that a bill that unappealing to me is equally as far away from me.

Despite being inundated by Brooks and Dunn at several inopportune times over the last couple of weeks, and being severely pissed off, I would have to admit that there are worse things to be exposed to. Like Kanye West opening for U2, as mentioned above.

Plus I do love 'Mexican Minutes'.

Sorry to hijack my own thread, but the Big & Rich/Gretchen Wilson show was pure crap. They had the volume turned way up during Gretchen Wilson to cover her voice, she seriously sounded horrid during her sound check and didn't get much better during the show. Then she resorted to covering Heart and Led Zepplin near the end of her set.
I didn't have to listen to too much of Big & Rich, but I hate that fucking hat one of them wears and their College Gameday song sucks ass.
Once again they were gouging people on merchandise. It was crazy half the crowd was violating the PCU rule where you don't wear the shirt of the band you are seeing and still forked out $25 for crappy t-shirts. Big & Rich were even hocking women's underwear.

I heard an Ennio Morricone soundtrack in my head as I read this.

ANY mention of Gretchen Wilson belongs in that 2 Liter bottle of Pee thread. Talk about a girl that would want to be punched in the face, just so she could gum you better without teeth. YELCH!!

Oh, and I know its not cool to know things like this, but dudes like Brooks and Dunn, Clint Black and Garth Brooks (and many more, Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson) grew up whooping it up to shit like Skynyrd, The Allmans, and The Stones. And, I would bet that in a place like NEbraska, or even ATL,. the 2 demographics are quite similar: middle to upper middle class white people who like to get a sitter for the kids, maybe a 1/4 gram of blow and a bottle of tequilla, and whoop every once in a while. I know middle America is to be scorned, but I just don't see what's so outlandish about all of this.

I haven't bought a Brooks and Dunn cd since I was eleven, and I haven't paid attention to them since either, but they're not awful. In fact, I would probably check it out if I got tickets for the Stones. I saw Garth Brooks(not a fan) in concert (not by choice ) and he put on one hell of show.

Loogar,
I think you nailed it on the head with the comment about Upper Middle Class White people here in this area, although I'm not sure about the coke. They fork out huge amounts of cash for these shows, buy four beers each at $4.50 a piece and act like jackasses without worrying about their kids finding out.

After thinking this over more, I think the Brooks and Dunn fans who never bought a ticket to the Stones will be more pissed off about missing this show than will The Stones fans having to see Brooks and Dunn.

As for Gretchen Wilson, I had to see her after she took a shower. She was dressed pretty shabby and wearing a towel on her head. She definitely has a nasty butter face thing going on. I think the thing that bothers me most about Big & Rich is their associate Cowboy Troy. I've got nothing against Black Cowboys, Charlie Pride and Ray Charles did some awesome Western music, but cowboy rap is just lame shit.

Beer's only $4.50 at shows there? Wow, it's up to $7 at those kind of shows here now.

That's actually old news. I think they sold them a song to be used as a recurring play in some storyline.

But yeah. Its a little shameful.

A pint of normal domestic beers like Bud and Coors usually run about 1.50-2.25 at bars here, a twenty ounce beer at an arena in Nebraska usually runs $5.00, but the last price I remember charging for a pint is $4.50
