Unfortunately, from my experiences working at a college station, there is a lot of stuff that we don't have. For instance, I do believe we have some Jethro Tull buried deep deep in the back, but I know that we don't have Rush or BTO. So it can become a crapshoot.

I'm housesitting, and the person's neighbors must think I'm doing whippets right now.

This is legitimately jilarity.

(Not hilarity - jilarity.)

Great stuff.

... Even if this was just one Catholic/Jesuit school pranking another's college station.

Actually, I don't think Depaul even has a radio station, and I'm more associated/familiar with the one above. I have a friend that works there and my band played in it once.

I have to feel for the DJ...I would hate it when idiots would request shit like korn and godsmack when I obviously wasn't playing anything like that.

They do, but it might be one of those "dorm and web only" deals. Marsh from "our other board" has a sports and music show.

As a former college DJ, this crap went on a lot of the time. Mostly it was people who just didn't know what our format was, but most of the time it was some hipster who wanted to namedrop an artist to sound like they had their "ear to the underground". I cannot understand why the DJ kept talking, I would've stopped after JT was brought up. I did however used to play 'Locomotive Breath' on my show about once a month.

I also think its ironic that the people who are trying to turn people onto new music and broaden one's palette are the ones who are being antagonized...just stupid if you ask me. Why not call up a mall record store and ask for Mojo Nixon instead?

Totally. I used to get people who would just call up and ask what I was wearing. 'Course the only response to that is "Nothing".

As a bar DJ I'd also get the most stupid request & comments. My favorite was when 21 year olds would come up and be all: "Um... could you, like, play some punk?", when the majority of my set was stuff like the Ramones, The Clash, the Stooges, etc. And then they'd argue with me that NOFX is "old school" punk. heh heh.

Haha this jock that used to attend the center for art I go to tried to argue that NOFX was old school punk. Or maybe it wasn't him and it was this sophomore tool who thinks he's the shit but writes emo reflections in his sketchbook. I don't know. Wow, when did I start using terms like tool and jock? Something is wrong with me.
