Got out of there spending a little under $50, and made off with some cool stuff.

5 packs of MiniDiscs for 99 cents each(!), a couple music mags w/ free CDs, a bunch of 49 cent discs from bands I've never heard of, a live Umphrey's McGee DVD (check them out here), and as I was leaving, I asked the girl at the counter if they had any free stuff and she gave me 4 samplers, 2 of which are DVDs (Dredg and a reggae one, which includes the making of 'Is It Rolling Bob?').

Whew. This should last me a while. 8)

Yeah, I'm always on the lookout for MDs, and one of the guys there knows it. He pointed them out to me. I almost kissed him! The cheapest I've been able to find them online is around $1.70 each, and that doesn't include shipping, of course.

Ain't borderline obsolete technology wonderful?

I'm a MD lover as well. Definitely a cool technology.

Yeah. Just another example of Sony blowing it.

Do you ever exchange music on MDs? PM me if you want to.

99 cents?!

Daaaamn. A 10 pack-er? I usually get those for 20$ at indian stores. Cheapest I can get. Go in a major electronic store and they're 50$.

Heard about the Dredg DVD. I sooo want to see that.

I had a good day too yesterday in my fav dollar bin:

88, The (Over And Over)
Black Angels, The (EP)
Crosstide (Life As A Spectator)
Faultline (Closer Colder)
Floor, The (Personnel)
Junior Pantherz (Death By Life)
Kite Operations (Dandelion Day)
Longwave (Day Sleeper EP)
Lush (Spooky)
Nine Black Alps (EP)
Rogue Wave (Descended Like Vultures - Advance CD)
Silversun Pickups (Pikul)
Standard, The (Albatross - Advance CD)
Tunstall, KT (Eye To The Telescope)
Veda (The Weight Of An Empty Room)
Waxwings, The (Let's Make Our Descent)
Whirlwind Heat (Flamingo Honey)

Grand total = 17$

Sometimes I wonder if they know what they get rid of in there.

I think Jed has you beat with the better haul.

I like that BB King - 80 cd, minus a few songs.

No, 5-packer, but still...

I PM'd you. What's on the DVD you were talking about in your PM?

I don't use my MD player much these days (I have a big professional studio deck) but I should think about stocking up with some blank disc since they will probably be hard to find the near future.

Hey, c'mon- to each his own haul, eh?

I'm playing the Essential Millennium 3-disc set from Pete Tong, Fatboy Slim and Paul Oakenfold. The original price sticker on this one was $30.99. Bought it for 99 cents. Tower must be needing some quick cash.

Are all 3 of these BB tracks on your full-length? Ain't Nobody Home, Reconsider Baby and Ain't That Just Like A Woman.

Please tell me more about that Leaves, and the Dredg DVD. I am not familiar with Leaves; I am familiar (musically) with Dredg.

Allmusic sez: Arnar Gudjonsson (vocals/guitar), Hallur Hallsson (bass), and Arnar Olaffson comprise the Icelandic indie-rock group, Leaves. Taking their name from the Nick Drake album Five Leaves Left, Leaves originated in Iceland's capital city during summer 2001. Gudjonsson had been holed up in a red house, writing songs and once Hallsson joined him, Leaves came to life. By October, the trio had several songs under their belts and played their first live show, an 800-crowd gig at a local art gallery. Looking to expand their horizons and gain new roots, Leaves looked to London. They signed a deal with B-Unique before the year's end and issued Breathe. This 11-song set found Leaves crafting a moody, swirling pop sound. The British press adored them, often comparing Leaves to Radiohead and Coldplay. Shared dates with The Coral, Supergrass, and Electric Soft Parade followed as well as smaller gigs in America. In spring 2003, DreamWorks caught wind of Leaves' impressionable musical style and offered them a stateside deal. Breathe was slated for a domestic release in September.

They sound a little like Dishwalla at times to me, with a little more emphasis on the swirly keyboards. It's pretty stuff. Time will tell if it's a keeper, but for now, it's pleasant enough.

They have a website listed on the CD jacket, but it doesn't work (leavesmusic.com).

Let me know if you'd like to hear it.

Oh, yeah- like I was telling Jed- the Dredg DVD is really not all that. It's 28 min. long, and it's concert footage interspersed with talking/fooling around segments. The sound is very good, but they do weird things with the cameras that's distracting- like the MTV school of shooting. For fans only.

Your kidding man?

I'd pay 17 bucks for just the advanced copy of the rogue waves cd! I love collecting stuff like that.

Jealous..
