128kb. sounds unmastered (guitars are way too up in the mix at times, etc.). hell, even the mix sounds like a pre-mix tracking, but maybe i'm reading too much into it because of the qual.

i dunno, prob. good for a reference tracking, but i'll look forward to a proper version.

My roommate got it last night... We spent 32 min. giggling and laughing at the last track on the album. The single is B-A-D, ends with 2+ min. of organ wankery, and is the only song under 11 min. on the album...
We were discussing playing the last song 7 times during a/to fill a 4 hour show on our station, possibly with laughter over the top...
If you thought Rush "2112" or Yes were proggy, you ain't heard nothin' yet...

it's nice to see that you can preview an album before buying it, but damn, whatever happened to anticipation?

This is what happens when the big 4-5 record companies stop putting out releases at reasonable prices, and start asking you to plunk down 15+ just to hear an album...

That being said, I rarely get involved in this kind of thing. I love going to the record store the day something comes out to buy it, even though the past few times I've tried to do this I've had to go to 3-4 places to find it, then pay $17 for it...

Besides, with the Volta, it's all about the head-on-plate artwork anyways...

I don't know if it's "the most amazingly progressive album in ages," but I'll go ahead and put my head on the block and say I like it. But I also like old-school prog, too, and this does indeed fill the role. File this under "if you like that sort of thing then this is the sort of thing you'll like."

Hey - no pointing and laughing now.

First instinct is to reject for all the wankery ... but on the other hand... I'll throw in that it really is steeped in the prog-landscape of the originals particularly Emerson Lake and Palmer. I get a very Brain Salad Surgery vibe off it.

I kinda dig the self-indulgent nature of this record. But I also miss the hyper chaos of the Tremulant EP.
