I don't want to add it, but I guess it fits...

"Ticking" by Loud Lucy. I think the album from start to finish is classic though. The lead singer actually put out a solo album about five years after Lucy that still gets a lot of play around here.

There is some monstrously bad music being mentioned in this thread.

Holy Christ, did the '90's suck. Nirvana's success bred a million horrible bands like Creed trying to cash in on their sound with none of their authenticity. The success of these bands then gave birth to the rise of rap-metal. Hip-hop disintegrated from its origins in underground social consiousness to massively popular misogyny. The FCC relaxed its media restrictions resulting in the consolidation and eventual obliteration of regional radio. No wonder most of these songs will endure only as hair-metal does - as kitschy testaments to pop culture gone horribly awry.

Not sure what you mean, but the song was catchy and I dug it that one summer (I think it was 99)

The song opens with a conversation amongst the dudes in the band in which they discussed how they could cheer up one of their friends. As the chatter trailed off, one of them posed the immortal query, "Does he like Butter-tarts?"

... And, yes, it was '99. It was on the You can't stop the bum-rush lp, and the soundtrack to the movie Go (Doug Liman's follow-up to Swingers, starring an unknown Canadian (Sarah Polley) (who has since tried to become an indie-film princess but has really just taken the piss), with a pre-dianetic Katie Holmes in a supporting role).

cracker had other hits... "teen angst", "happy birthday to me" (?) are two that come to mind.

juliana hatfield had "my sister" as a single, too.

Well I certainly wasn't endorsing everything I listed. I hated that Nixons song and still do. I actually liked a few Verve Pipe songs back in the day, but "The Freshman" was just boring.
