Will start with Intel in a few weeks in Boston area. Pretty excited. Have been telecommuting with company in New Mexico for 4 months, splitting living time between parent's house and friends couches, will be nice to settle down.

Just talked with company on phone, haven't accepted yet. While the offer beat my expectations, my other buddy with Intel says I have wiggle room so am trying to bump it up a bit...figure it can't hurt to ask. I really hate negotiating though, especially when I am happy with initial offer. Just called, the HR manager turned from 'super-happy HR voice' to 'cold pissed off HR manager' when I started making my case.

Will see what happens...

Basically, asked them for about 6% more, will be happy with any increase at all. In no way do I think I jeapordized my original offer. Should hear back later today or early tomorrow.

Now time to find a place in Boston...

I'd say settle for the offer, but then once you're hired at a rate, it's 10 times harder to get a raise anyway. So get it now.

Holy fucking shit! I was offered (and later rejected) a position at Intel in Portland back in '03! We could've been boarding buddies! Took a position at Timberline instead. OMG!

starting salaries are negotiable based one experience, etc. - but we can't guarantee future increases.
