I'm talking from the venue/ticketmaster, not from a broker. The prices so many of these Latin bands charge is ridicululous in my opinion. Especially groups from Mexcio. I bring this up because Moenia (Mexico's Depeche Mode) want's $38.50 in advance and $51 day of show at the Metro in Chicago. Fuck. Isn't that a lot? I understand they have to travel...

for shows in la, that's about average for a medium-large size venue.... tickets are usually the $40-70 range (depending on the venue). but that's for the larger shows.

uh, yeah, that is ridiculous. what's really absurd there is the $12.50 bump from advance to dos. i don't think i've seen it be that much.

I've paid $120 for a ticket before... and traveled to another city to see the show as well. So with airfare and everything, I spent over $350. Y'all can guess who it was, har har.

I don't know if you're joking or not, but I'd recommend these guys to anyone. I dig the vocals and musically the songs are usually pretty exciting. They had a track on Amorres Perros, which is one of my favs from them. I can hook ya up if you're for real.

The Metro is an 1100 capacity venue that has shows on average between $8-15 dollars max. That is why I question it. LA doesn't surprise me though.

I don't know if I was or not either. I guess I just have this mental image of some greased up eurofags wearing sombreroes and it makes me giggle uncontrollably.

i was discussing this earlier in the year with co-workers. they were paying over $100 for U2, stones, etc. i told 'em i'd never pay more than $30 for a show, EVER. a week later i paid $50 to see wilco at red rocks.

I went to see Albania's Depeche Mode and admission was merely a donation of canned goods.

Think about: the venue is small- to mid-size [capacity], and is by-far out-stripped by the number of Chicagoans that will want to see the show.

How many Mexicans in Chicago? A lot, I know that.

They'll all be at the show.

I paid $75 each to see Cheap Trick on New Years Eve at Navy Pier a couple years ago. It was NYE, which is how I justified it.

Otherwise, I won't pay more than $20. I also won't attend a venue that is larger than 1,000 people. Metro is about as large as I'll go.

And that's the crux. It's totally supply and demand. Tons of demand, not much supply.

This is the market that will pay a $20 plus cover at a bar, not a nightclub, a bar, every week for not much more than a DJ.

i agree that there won't be a problem filling the venue, which is why it's even more perplexing that it isn't at the aragon (cap: 4000+) because that's where a lot of the bigger mexican bands play.

I don't even know anymore about the scene. I really don't know how big these guys actually are. Last time they were here at the House of Blues. Actually, I think the last two times or so they were there. Quality act and yes, there are a lot of Mexicans there.

That made ME giggle uncontrollably, too. For some reason, I'm getting a mental image of DM in Three Amigos, too, and that's an equally humorous vision.

and now i'm laughing...

my ex and i once spent most of our rent money on u2 tickets. it was our first show after 9/11 and we were like, "fuck it. rent can wait." we were close enough that i could see the design of bono's jacket and it was definitely worth it.

dmb, i would pay for the tickets and go to the show. christmas gift to yourself, perhaps?

the shows i've seen this year at the hollywood bowl (basement jaxx, david byrne) were around $50. but the hollywood bowl is HUGE. and that's after ticketmaster fees. i usually won't spend more than $30 on a show (depending on who is playing and where the venue is) but then again, i also get comped a fair share so it evens out.

i find it funny when people bitch about paying more than $8-15 for a show. try living in la and supporting your music habit. seriously, if you don't have connections or whatever, it gets goddamn expensive.

I think the most I ever spent was $75 for Peter Gabriel back in 2002. It was worth every penny.

I spent $100 to see Bjork with Matmos + Orchestra + choir + Zeena Parkins without thinking twice.

I would spend up to $100 to see Springsteen. And some other people.

But, wait - one hundred dollars Canadian is like Fugazi show money, no?
