I was just about to say this. I'm way too excited for my own good, and I have a paper on feminism in the arts due tonight at midnight that I haven't even started and I don't think my brain has the ability to at this given time considering all that is on my brain is the events of the next few days.

Nine Horses -- I just can't get enough of this album. I love it when they kick in with:

Benevolent mother
Smother the Child
The perpetrators are in denial

The banality of evil

King of the castle
Room at the top
Off with their heads
Chop 'em off

The banality of evil

How is this Rads? I wanna get it if for nothing other than that BBARE song, but can't justify the expense right now...how is the whole thing?

I'm fair-to-middlin' AMAZED at how good it is. Waaaay better than that Bloodshot 5th anniversary comp.

Fave stuff:

The Bobby Bare Jr. version of Jane's Addiction's "Ocean Size"
The My Morning Jacket track (which is just Jim James solo and acoustic)
Richard Buckner's "Do You Want To Go Somewhere"
The Yayhoos AWESOME version of the O'Jays' "Love Train"
Nora O'Connor w/Andrew Bird "Two Way Action"
Deadstring Brothers "Where Are All My Friends" (don't know who they are, but this is slowcore monger mix material)
Andre Williams and the Sadies "Shake A Tail Feather"
Dollar Store's twang-ified version of the Soft Boys' "I Wanna Destroy You"
Waco Brothers version of "I Fought The Law"

Plus good tracks by the Old '97s, Crooked Fingers, Mary Lou Lord, Kelly Hogan, the Bottle Rockets, Minus 5, Graham Parker, Hank III, and John Doe. It could be culled to a single disc, I guess - get some of the more pedestrian alt.country stuff off it - which I might do for my own listening pleasure (let me know if you're innerested in a copy).

It's so worth a download - and like I said, it's patchy, but there's easily 40 minutes of good-to-great material there.
