Never more then 30.

And when I first read the title of this thread I thought it asked "how much would you pay for snow". Seriously. I did.

Actually, the Real (BR) has gone up against the Dollar (US). Quite a bit in fact.

As to the Canadian, last I checked, it was 0.80$US to 1.00$CA.

Used to be 0.58 or 0.60$US to 1.00$CA, as well, I think.

I paid a little over a $100 for Sigur Ros in Dc this year, and Steely Dan 2 years ago now.

Ouch! We've been dissed by a nation whose currency looks like food stamps.

I don't get the joke, Billz - we don't have food stamps up here. Is that a reference to our paper currency being different colors? I've always found the American disdain for Canada's different colored bills to be very odd, considering the US is one of the only nations in the world that uses the same dull color for all of its paper denominations.

Kinda makes me wonder why the US mint bothered to make their coins different sizes.

I like Moenia. I'd pay US$38.50 if I had it and I was sure I was going, but that's pushing my limits. I've skipped King Crimson because they wanted something insane like US$60 with no opening act, and I had just seen them the year before.

The most i've spent was $283 on two tickets.

It was totally worth it. Then there was other stuff i spent money on...

Yeah, but nobody even cares about counterfeiting Canadian money. And no hijacker ever says, "Give me $1 million....CANADIAN."

Thats why that one Hunter S. Thompson story where he mentions having a "packet of new Canadian money" has always cracked my shit up for some reason. Its just absurd enough to be true.

I spent about $25-30 for Wilco once (after seeing them a few times for $15), but that's the most I would ever pay.

Elaborate. I don't know the oeuvre so well, thus missed the Canadian larceny spree.

The most I've ever paid was $90 to see Radiohead last year. That wasn't too bad considering they hadn't been here since '98 and they only played in Sydney and Melbourne, so of course the resold tix were going for a lot more.

I'm jealous tho of anyone who can get away with paying no more than $30. Even Aus bands charge that much or more when playing at the Metro (1000 capacity).

International bands that I've seen recently, like Spoon and the Go Team regularly charge $40 or more, let alone bands that actually sell any cds here

I don't go over 40 face as a rule for a single show. I'll cheerfully travel, though - if we count that I'm sure I paid 150 to see wilco the day after AGWB was released, and 60-70 for bauhaus.

I've never understood the joke about Canadian currency. Is it the different colours that elicit the giggles? You guys must have a blast when the leaves change.

You guys are fuckin weird. I know $50 is a ripoff for a show considering some bands only charge $10, but I mean if one of my favorite acts comes along and they're charging 50 bucks then OF COURSE I'm paying to see them. All I have is a damn after school job and it still isn't THAT big of a hit to my wallet for something that will stick with me for quite some time. I'm sure all of you spend that same amount on a few cds everyone one or two weeks.

Good call. I'd also fork over $100 to see one of those Levon Helm shows. Easy.

I pay $60-70 for shows every so often, but they're pretty expensive here

Well...yeah, if one of my favourite acts came (and they never do -- cf. Mike Oldfield, Klaus Schulze, Vangelis, et al), and I had it, I'd spend well over US$100 for them. But it also depends on the artist. Someone like Pet Shop Boys go out of their way to put on a great show, I'd be more willing to pay for something like that than, for example, New Order, whom I love, but are notoriously inconsistent in the quality of their shows (I've heard reviews going both ways, and I read something about them sequencing half the music, which is a big pet peeve of mine), so I'd not pay as much to see them.

I dunno. There's a couple things to take into account:

1) I prefer to see bands when they're on their way up and still hungry. Any band that's charging over 50 bucks is either past its prime or a mainstream act. I'm not interested in seeing either.

2) I prefer to spend my money participating rather than watching. So if I've got $100 of recreational cash it's going to Whistler lift tix or good scotch or something, rather than the pockets of some bloated touring machine.

3) Generally speaking, I'd rather have the CD than the live show.

For me, this statement is true for Spoon and should be flipped to accommodate the White Stripes.

For ONE ticket? You were raped. Go to counseling. I just spent $70 for two second row tickets at the Ryman Auditorium (Section 3BB) no less.

It depends how badly I want to see a show and how good the seats are. In general, tickets are way too fucking much. This is the fault of managers, artists, agents and promoters, but Ticketmaster is just a fucking shit leetch. They often take home more money than the promoter with their service fees.
