are there any threads that I missed discussing this band?

I am curious to know the Obner consensus of them.

My Canadian friend sent me a wonderful xmas/birthday gift--three mixes, a crapload of guitar picks, and a canadian souvenier--with some Unicorn tracks on them. The song Tuff Ghost is pretty cool but my experience this far has been with this song.

I'm sure we talked about them last year, perhaps on CMJ. I think they broke up already.

i enjoy the album every once in a while. in fact, i think they're one of my favorite bands that pitchfork really pimped. shame they are gone, eventho islands sounds mostly the same.

its just fun, nonsensical indie rock stuff.

I own the Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? album. I spun it a lot when I first got it. But then my younger sister and other younger coworkers began playing it quite a bit and it's been hard for me to listen to it since.

Their first, OOP album and their later EP are about equally good.

The band's broken up now. Islands are basically the same band from what I hear. And then there's been longtime rumors of them releasing a rap album as Th' Corn Gangg.

Make sure discostu sees this thread, I believe he is the biggest fan on the board.

Total sarcasm. I think he hates them more than I hate David Eggers.

Odd, I thought Ish was their biggest fan. I mean, he did share living space with them for a short while.

I really like this album, although most of it amounts to fun, non-sensible indie rock. I saw Islands when they played in LA, and they sounded pretty good. They had a song with Bus Driver and Subtitle (the rappers associated with Th' Corn Gangg) rapping over it that actually sounded pretty good (considering it was essentially a Unicorns song with rappers).

jls and I both share a intense disdain of this band, except his is more personal since one of the things squatted at his house for a spot.

I knew I felt weird today. The presence of this thread must have been the cause, it rubbed off into this thread (see quote directly below) without me knowing why.

I feel the hate boiling. Conor Oberst and Islands (nee The Unicorns, nee Th'Corn Gangg), you have a hate mate. I wish they would all tour together, get food poisoning, learn nothing from each other and then get real jobs or go into a more obscure medium of expression.

Look...... this band (Islands/Unicorns/Th' Corn Gangg) represents everything that is wrong with indie rock and "arty" musicians in general. They are worse than any prog-rock pretentiousness you can think of. Clap Your Hands Say Splat! are the 2005 version of Unicorns but with more exposure.

Over-analytical much? I like 'em, and I like Islands too (to a much lesser degree.) Well-written songs, fun, doesn't sound quite like any other band, the end. I don't get the intense hatred at all; to me Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone is pretty unfuckwithable. Now, The Boy Least Likely To, that's some utter shite in kinda the same vein.
