Best EP of the year.
Three new tracks (possibly better than everything on Futures, definitely continuing in the darker vein) with names pointing to the Cure ("Disintigration") and Joy Division ("Closer"). A great cover of Eliott Smith's "Half Right" and a remix by Styrofoam, whom I like ALOT.
I find Jimmy Eat World fascinating. Clarity was such a tremendous album both well constructed and melodic. Bleed American was bitterly poppy at face value but has some really great songs hiding behind the singles. And Futures... it's quite a transistion from Bleed American. They could have easily put out an even poppier album after their insane amount of success but they did just the opposite releasing a very mature and detailed album. "23" is such a great song. And this relatively new EP is just amazing. The layers are richer, the hooks are less abundant and the musicianship just keeps getting better. If this is the direction they are heading... I like it alot.
